US-Based AMD 2.6GHz/4GB RAM/250GB HD/1TB Traffic Dedicated Server USD$49.95/Month from Alchemy

This seems like a pretty good deal to me. DreamHost is a fairly well-regarded hosting service.

DreamHost now offers dedicated servers, thanks to our recently-acquired large equity stake in Alchemy Communications, Inc.

Alchemy Communications, Inc. is a Los Angeles-based colocation and dedicated server provider, offering reliable and high-quality service to small, medium, and large businesses in Southern California since 1996.

In honor of this new relationship, Alchemy is now offering DreamHost customers an introductory special that's only good while supplies last:

  • Processor: AMD Opteron 2.6GHz Dual Core
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Hard Drive: 250GB SATA
  • Bandwidth: 1TB / month
  • OS: Linux

All for just $49.95/month with one year pre-payment!

(get $5 more off of yearly price when you follow this link, i.e. USD$594.40/Year)

  • Just when I'm looking at dedicated servers too :) Problem is I don't want to be locked in for a year. the host I was looking at was offering 1GHz, 512MB memory, 4TB bandwidth for the same price + $50USD set up. Upgrades available.

Too bad I don't want to be locked in for a year, this is a great deal.

  • wow i got my account closed from dreamhost cause i was using torrents lolz. but back then their dedis were twice this price

    • +1

Thats what you get for not reading the TOS

      • Or just ignoring them and hoping for the best.

  • Well. 2.6GHz Opteron Dual Core — those are probably 185 or 285 released back in 2006, i.e. 3 year old CPUs and probably pretty old components as well. Good price, but just be aware that you are not getting a Shanghai for your "new" dedicated server :)

    • It is a dual core CPU though and a relatively modern one (3 years doesn't mean as much as it did 10 or even 5 years ago).

More importantly though is you get 4GB of RAM.

For some reason the cheapness of RAM hasn't quite trickled down into the dedicated or VPS pricing models.

      • I thought 3 years from today mean a lot more than 5-10 years ago?

OzBargain runs on a VPS with way less than 4GB of RAM but on a Xeon L5420 that I got from last year. I have an even smaller VPS from the same company this year and they have all been moved to 5520 — quite a bit of difference already.

I've also attempted to make a purchase — it turns out to be $5 off the entire amount rather than $5 off per month. Fixed the post for you.
