Most energy efficient heater for office (about 10sqm) for Tasmanian winter

Hello,

I was wondering whether anybody had any advice or experience regarding the most energy efficient heater for an office of about 10 square metres in Tasmania (obviously for the winter).

Currently using Dyson Air heater but not very good to get it warm, especially given the area.
I would be grateful for any advice or information from people who actually live there and have tried out different heating systems such as gas/electricity.

It needs to be kind of portable. It can be mounted on the wall and plugged in but things like central heating cannot be installed. Equally, reverse air conditioning is too expensive to put in and cannot be done quickly enough as especially the client area needs to be warm as soon as possible.
Looking forward to your replies.

  • Looks like you are talking electric if it must be portable. Good luck with finding anything effective and economical there. In an office space like that I would consider r/c inverter aircon.
Single or double glazing on windows there? Draughts under control?

  • This would heat you up quick. Great if you don't mind the smell of kerosene ;)

  • Fan heater has the lowest TOC, and heats area very quickly. For the cost of the dyson you could heat the office all year.

If you have exposed glass then I would suggest you look at an insulate (e.g thick curtains).
Don't just think about heating th air, also think about how heat is lost.

Reverse cycle aircon will use the least power for the heat it provides. All other options are just a question of how much worse than that.
I would suggest a $30 fan heater for now and a plan to install RC AC in future.
Consider too, that heating the space is not very efficient, if it is just one person there. An electric throw blanket uses less than 1/10th the electricity of a fan heater, but can keep an individual toasty.

You can get Portable RC units… Case closed.

      • I hadn't considered these, good idea!

  • Thanks. I will have a look at the portable RC units, and also at the throw blankets which also might be a goer.
Glass is single (not double) and I am pretty certain that insulation here is non-existent.
