  • With the amount of platinum credit card deals posted on ozbargain, I'd be surprised if anyone still pays for travel insurance instead of getting it for free within their credit card program.

    • any recommendations? looking at a 6 month canada trip in a few months time.. right now the insurance is going to cost more than the flights!

      • +1

My credit card is part of my premium home loan plan so I get it for free that way. Unfortunately I haven't looked too in depth on the ones offered via OZB. travel insurance definitely is costly though. I remember prior to having a credit card a 1 month trip to US was gonna cost over $700 for 2 in travel insurance. Just remember, which ever one you choose the condition is usually that you have to purchase the air fare tickets with the credit card to be eligible for the travel insurance.

Edit: try this one if you want no annual fee. I only read the key points so make sure you read the T&C's to ensure it covers what you need

      • Bankwest Zero Platinum has both complimentary travel insurance and no fees on foreign transactions so is a good choice for travel. I've never had to claim on travel insurance so don't know how good that side is but it's provided by Zurich Australian Insurance Limited.

  • thanks OP, but sorry , quick exact comparison ( same benefits and $100 excess) for TI in singapore, the best quote goes to TID, 2nd best = Medibank travel insurance (with discount), and last is covermore TI.

    • I have bought the Multi Trip Travel Insurance with Medibank last week and now they have 15% off…..

Have to negotiate with them now. Thanks OP.

If you haven't claimed might be easier to cancel the policy and purchase again. According to the PDS (page 10)

        http://www.travelinsurancepartners.com.au/tip/pdf/medibank/t…

        "Money back guarantee
Should You cancel this policy for any reason within the cooling off period, which is within 15 working days of the date of purchase, We will give You Your money back. Our money back guarantee ensures a refund of the entire premium unless You have already:
        • made a claim under the policy; or
        • departed on Your Journey.
Should You wish to cancel Your policy and receive a full refund, please contact Us within the cooling off period."

        • That's exactly what I'm thinking, but if they can just refund the difference to me then that'll be much easier. Thanks kkcool.

  • OP may I know how you get the 15% discount code? Via email?

    • Yes, I got the code via email. It was an 'offer' through one of the sites I used to do surveys on.

  • Good for domestic travel if you are hiring a car. Credit cards are often for international travel only. This insurance normally will pay out the $3K excess if you crash your rental. That way you don't need to waste coin on 'excess reduction' with the car hire companies.

    • Why not just get excess reduction cover through a thirdparty for domestic travel?

  • Hmm I am going to the US soon, I used my Citi signature card so not sure if I need to purchase additional travel insurance.
I know it is very expensive in the US to get treated for anything so this might be an option that I need to consider.
If anyone has any advice then would love to hear it.

    • Read the fine print on your card insurance policy, it's the only way to find out.

  • Can someone smarter than me please try to explain what this means. I found it in the Citibank credit card travel insurance. I really want to know what "incidental expenses for bed care patients mean"?

Unlimited except for reimbursement of incidental expenses for bed care patients which is limited to the cost of the expense up to $110 per day, with a limit of $13,000 per person to a maximum $16,500 for a cardholder travelling with their spouse and/or dependent children.

    • Whatever a person might need when he/she is a bedcare patient, like food, ipad rental to check on OZB, etc.

      • thank you so much for the explanation. so is my understanding is correct that reimbursement for medical expenses is unlimited?

  • Woolworths Comprehensive was around 20% cheaper than this discounted rate for my trip to US coming up. Similar limits and exclusions overall - some more, some less, on average the same for my situation.

As always, try iselect and then compared to discounted rate, this seems to just bring Medibank in line with the rest…
