OzB Consensus Best Cheap Postpaid Mobile Phone Plan

Hi there,
Just wondering what the collective Hive mind of OzBargain thinks is the best cheap (~$25) postpaid sim only mobile phone plan going around.

Looks like the Vaya mobile 18 power plan seems to be the pick at the moment? What do people think of them?

Looking for a plan that has at least 1GB of data and a small amount of included call credit.

I find it surprising that the plans now all seem inferior to the good old Virgin mobile big plan $29 /2gb bonus (for 19 with BYO), even though that was a pretty good special back in the day. I would have thought technology would be getting cheaper.

Thanks,

    Boost Ultra for $20?

Depends on your future usage pattern really.

Go to Whirlpool.net.au look at the vaya mobile thread, you might think thrice

As for consensus, here on something that has too many variables and requirements like a mobile phone plan, you have to be dreaming 👿

Definitely not Vaya, the shenanigans they pull are shocking.

Have a look at boost or telechoice, they are the ones that spring to my mind first.

      Also spintel and jeenee

Boost does not include international call where as telechoice does. TC is 24 months contract but boost is prepaid.

I'm with LiveConnected, $19.99/month for $650 calls and 1.5GB data.

I think they're now Vaya though, right? My partner is with Vaya and has had absolutely no problems.

    Just an option. :)

    TeleChoice $20pm

uses Telstra 3G, Cap includes international calls.

    Spintel.

I'm with telechoice $20 for limited calls (but sufficient for me), unlimited texts, and 1G.
Wife just ported to telechoice (because I couldn't find anything better), so I think we get free calls to each other too.
Wasn't keen on signing up for a year though. And it mightn't be enough voice allowance for everyone.
Also, I was a bit uneasy moving away from Telstra. I don't get reception everywhere I go as it is, suspect it would be worse with anyone else.

Pretty comfortable enjoying Voda, or Vaya. In $32 - $25 per month- range.

Though for me it will be the former, as I like the internet. As much as being a disloyal, pre paid, free agent. LTE & unlimited Saturday-Sun~

Telstra has been good with [$1]dollar for $30 Starter kits, all the same! :)).

  • Jeenee Mobile

  • Cheers guys for the suggestions!

Spintel. They have auto adjusting plans and you can select the amount of calls, txt and data depending on your needs.

  • I am still on the old Virgin Mobile- 2.25 GB, and $450 calls on the super-fast Virgin (read Optus) 4G network ( download speeds tested at 53 Mbps- almost 4 times the speed of my ADSL2+). All for AUD 19/- per month, with no contracts. Very happy- pity I cannot get the same deal for my son.
    Coverage is very good.

  • Get on the next amaysim deal there's been a few listed. . $20 unlimited calls and texts 5gb of data for 30 days

    • And then what after 30 days?
      Pay an inflated rate?

So your savings over the how long you keep this plan is not very much.
Never be pulled in by insignificant one-off savings for reoccurring payments.

      • I bought 10 $20 vouchers and haven't had a problem using them to recharge my account

      • After one month jump on the $1 Aldi sim that i bought from previous deal and next day back to Amaysim with $15 for 5 GB unlmtd with pricepal cashback of $20.

  • Not huge on Spintel's recent plan adjustments, but I'm not keen to go back to Vaya either. Hrm. It's only a couple of dollars either way, but still.

  • Also on Vaya's $18 plan and haven't had any issues. Best value by far - however I will admit that if any of the horror stories that often get posted by others happens to me then it'll completely change my attitude.

  • Also with Vaya ($18 for 1.5GB data), no problems so far. They take a security deposit, just like what TPG did. Probably gonna say it is non-refundable as well later, like what TPG did. But I don't mind them stealing $20 (which I will fight for if they do decide to steal it) if it means I can save upwards of $10 per month on a similar plan I was on previously ($30 Optus for 1.5GB data).

Their email customer service is amazing though, email them and they will get back to you in about 2 hours. Their call centre customer care though… You just cannot hear them… So if you have problems… Game over.
