Optus $2 Sims for 10c at K-Mart Nationwide

560

Are you too on a quest to not spend more than $1.10/month for a mobile service? So now that you've got a heap of $30 Telstra starter sims (for $1 each) or $30 vodaphone sims (for $5) you probably need some cheap sims to port out and back to. Expiry on mine are all around late 2016. Enjoy.

BTW don't forget to grab some $30 vodaphone starter packs for $5 while there

Update: Voucherking says probably nationwide. Stock up.

Update 2: confirmed nationwide Thanks bargain bot.

Don't want to sound stupid… I understand why people would want the starter packs with credit on them, but what's the point in these? Thanks

Port out from $30 Telstra starter sim (which cost $1) to 10c Optus sim and port back to next $30 Telstra starter sim ($1). So you can keep your number. Porting out to another network is much quicker. Hope that helps :)

      • unless you want to port to Vodafone, last time I started the registration around 3pm, nothing happened until 10am next day. A few days later I ported another number from Telstra to Optus and back, took around 30min all up. All around 3pm on a working day.

      Maybe for uber

    • Load an Optus SIM into each "old" phone you have [total active PrePaid SIMs may be limited - by law - to 5]; activate to use Optus MyPrePaid Daily (No use; no cost; pay $10 every 6-months to keep each working; it's usable credit), eg as incoming line for business promotions that end on a certain date; keep an "extra" phone hidden in car or home (for emergency, if u lose your); give out to old rellies as your own ver of ex-Telstra "In Contact" (for an oldie, who has no phone; unlikely, in 2015, I hope); use Optus MyPrePaid Daily Plus to get 1 GB for $4 for use over 24 hours (ie, from Midnight to ~2 min's before next Midnight), etc.

My store has these for 10c as well so seems like nationwide

    Can confirm Nationwide deal!

  • Can anyone tell me the point of these sims?

    • +3

You heard of mobile telephones? :p

Can use for any Optus pre-paid offer, including $2 days. Just no starter credit included.

      • +1

Sorry I still don't get the point of these sims. Why can't you just use your normal phone? Are people that scared of going over the limit on the calls? lol

        • +8

Step1: You start with a telstra $30 starter pack (sold for $1)
Step2: At the end of the month, you port your number to 'these sims'($0.10)
Step3: You port back to another telstra $30 starter pack for next month mobile service
          Step4: you do it again
Step5: you do it again and again and again

So $1.1 for a month of mobile service is not too bad

        • @ericeric:
How much credit do you get from Optus and telstra?

        • @ericeric:

Port online? Or need to call cs?

        • +1

[@tendollar] You may want to have a look at this, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/telstra_pre-paid_starter_p…

There are number of options, I think the freedom plan will give you $250 call credit plus 1.3GB data for 30days , maybe check Telstra website for current offer.

          @bti_jet
          port online.

          @ericeric:

Good steps written. Although I just dispose every sim when they run out.

I don't care if the number changes :) I don't use the sim as primary contact

I think it's too much hassle porting in and out

        • @ericeric: you talk like Telstra $1 Sim pack is everywhere, they are hard to get!

      • Min.$1 days (unlim'd SMS MMS + 30 min talk time)

Zero cost, ie, if all you do is ring 1800-numbers all day (starts at Midnight.

Does this have $2 credit to be used for the daily prepaid?

I wonder if Kmart is starting a MVNO hence clearing out the competition in advance :)

I grabbed the last $2 nano sim for 50c a couple days ago, but saw they had laptop and tablet SIMs for 10c. Are you telling me I can also port my number with those?

    • Yep. It's just marketing.

    • Tab's & other non=phone devices "need" (as an Optus business decision) a Data-only SIM(!) It makes Data cost MORE…!

  • Saw these at Kmart. They're marketed for tablets.

    • Can be activated on mobile to port number across and back 👌

  • I found a wide range of $2 sims at Indooroopilly (Brisbane) but they were all scanning up at $0.50. They must have been old stock as some were indicating they had cheap rates From overseas (no actual detail on what the cheap rates might be!)

  • -2

You got to be desperate to bother with this.

    • Really? Usual price $2 for one. For the same price you can get 20 if you grab them now and not worry about it for almost two years…

      • Don't Optus SIM cards have an expiry date if they're not activated by that time?. The Optus SIM from my Optus Nokia Lumia 530 has an activate by expiry date.

        • Correct.

        • @Diji1:

Probably why these Optus SIM cards are going so cheap could be getting close to the activate by expiry date and so Kmart just wants to get rid of them before they become worthless.

        • @hollykryten: I can confirm this is not the reason, I believe optus is changing the packaging. Also the $2 sim cards hold no value to stores, kind of like giftcards. We don't write them off, we just throw them out if they are expired.

Seriously haha, it blows my mind that people can be bothered doing this monthly.

  • Nation wide? Could somebody provide website link to can price match?

  • is the Telstra $1 still on?

  • The normal/micro scanned for $1 in barkly square brunswick vic but nano scanned for 50c

and also when shopping at Wollies (it may be >$30 shop) scan your everyday card, then check your receipt if you got the $30 telstra starter pack for $1 voucher.. if so, go to the counter, show receipt, pay $1 and that's it.

  • Sims at Kmart Chadstone have an expiry of November 2015. A little too early for many with the Telstra starter packs but just right for some? Kmart Chadstone has a good 20-30 nano sized sims and about the same again for standard and micro….

  • got a mix of sims with different prices at Kmart Keilor Downs, the 10c one were those ipad mini/tablet one expiring around end of 2015, the yellow pack for mobile was 50c expires around 2016.

  • With $1 telstra starter pack, its not included $30 is it? Coz it states $2 sim pack at the conner. Its not $30 starter pack at the price of $1.

  • edBARGAIN,the link to the Telstra deal is marked EXPIRED. Can u still get it even though it is expired?

  • My Kmart have 3 different price.
    1) $2 SIM (Stardard/Micro) Prepaid mobile Broadband for Tablet and laptops
expires on 1 Aug 2015 reduced to 10 cent
    2) $2 SIM (Stard/Micro) mobile Broadband sim only expires on 01 Feb 2016
    reduced to 50 cent.
    3) $2 SIM for mobile phone reduces to $1.00

I buy the first 2 sim only. Hope can port my telstra number to optus and port back tomorrow. Any one can confirm these different SIM , all of them can port to as normal mobile phone number ? Otherwise will lost my mobile number :(

    • You shouldn't have an issue. At worst your mobile number won't be able to make calls if the sim you're porting it too is data only (designated by the telco) but since you'll be porting away from that sim on the same day back to Telstra the lack of calling capacity won't make a difference.

  • I just come back from KMART chatswood NSW. But they haven't sell them in these price! Still slight discount(telstra $30 to $20;optus $2 to $1).
    So disappointed!

  • +1

Thanks OP but K-Mart Garden City (Brisbane) charged me 50c.
    Ripped off.

  • But is there any $0.5 pack in Chatswood?
Have you scanned the price? Or they refused to scan for you?

  • It was scanned for $1 (not 10c) at Broadway NSW.

The tablets (data only) were 10c.

  • +1

I can confirm I can port out and in using the tablet sim >>BUT, I need customer service help. I can not port back uning my online account. It now allow me to do that. The customer service (ONLINE) very nice to help me to do that. In that case I can port back to Telstra with the $30 starter pack. That is my case, someone said can do that easy. Just let you know need to spend some time to wait and chat with them, not that easy. So the SIM are $1, 50 cent , and 10 cent. The photo show is for tablet sim that is 10 cent and short expire date.

  • Can I get a sim and get access to the cinema/movie rewards forever? How does it work?
