Since when does a bargain have to be an existing product that has been reduced?

This is a 42" TV that runs 4K at 60Hz and has HDMI 2.0 for $450+p&h.
Sounds like a bargain to me.

Clearly not a rep either, as they obviously just copypasted the description.

        • +7

If it's a good price, then yes it is.
A good price is a good price.

If this was to be released at $299, would you still not consider that a bargain, just because it will be the 'normal price'?

          @BTRaynes:

If it's a good price, then yes it is.

How do you know it's a good price? It's a new product, it has not been reduced. They might even drop the price after it's released, which means if you take up this offer, you will be over paying…
What do you know about the quality of this TV. Have you used it? Have you seen any independent reviews? Why is it a bargain???

        • +2

          @jv:

It is hard to get a HDMI 1.4/30hz 4K TV for this price, and this is 60Hz HDMI 2.0. Assuming this is more-or-less your expected substandard but OK Kogan quality, then it is a bargain.

        • @BTRaynes:
          stop feeding the troll

      • It definitely runs 4k at 60Hz?? Most of theirs the 4K drops to 30Hz

      • I think you can still get the ALDI one around the traps for similar ask, AND RETURN IT within 60 days if not satisfied

  • +1

    whats the bargain here?

    • -5

It looks like an advertisement for a new product ???

brongz has had to many bongs

    • A 42" 4K Television for $449… This is ozbargain, not ozdeal

      • What's the difference?

        • -1

A bargain is a good price, a deal is a special price.

        • @deanylev:

          I see …

  • +1

    it's not 4k. demmit

  • -5

    ^agreed

    • $449 for UHD @60Hz isn't bad though.

  • +3

the price was okay, but I had a Kogan 46" Full HD TV and all problems came out after three months, I'd rather pay more for a branded TV which lasts for years.

    • Yeah I'm sick of saying Kogan TVs are just as good because they use the 'same panels'. To get the price this low these things probably have the cheapest, worst PCBs, which can mean a much shorter life.

    1920x1080 = 1080 or Full HD
    4096x2160 = 4K

I wish they were consistent in either advertising it by the Y or X axis, not changing it based on which one sounds better

Unless i'm missing something, which is probably the case since i'm not across TV's/reso's in the slightest. Been happy with my 1080…

    • Double each axis to make 4k (3840x2160) where 1080P = 1k. I'm not sure where you get 4096x2160 from.

Edit: I get that 4096 is 4KB, using that you could argue that 4096x1080 = 4k.

      • Oh, i copied that resolution from a poster above, but 3840x2160 is just double the resolution? (not talking actual pixel count). I just though it'd be called 2k since when we say Full HD it's always advertised as 1080i or 1080p so it'd be the same that its 2k or 2160i/p

EDIT: Oh, so it's actually UHD, not 4K (but i guess i understand that now because x axis doesnt changed between UHD & 4K and its just the Y axis)

        • bleugh corrected me, I didn't realise 4k was a separate thing.

UHD is 4x the resolution of 1080p. Keep in mind you're doubling the pixels twice. 3840x1080 is twice that of 1080p. 3840x2160 is double again. 1x2x2 = 4.

        • @Dice:

          Got you, thanks :)

          Can't wait for 16K….lol

  • +2

    Actually, UHD is 3840 x 2160.
    4k is 4096 x 2160

Slightly wider horizontal aspect ratio on 4k.

  • I use a Kogan 42" smart tv which I bought 2 years back. Works well for that price. Display is pretty good and TV has enough number of ports (2 USB/4 HDMI).The only problem I have is the remote sometimes ceases to work. It has a lag and sometimes wud be nerve wrecking to get around.I connected a 2 TB HDD and when u dive into 2/3 levels of folders, TV stops responding. It hangs and have to switch off and wait for a couple of minutes to restart.
Its another game to play around with the SMARTness, youtube/Apps take forever to load and I stopped using them. Just chromecasting for the moment.
I think u get wat u pay for .For 450$ tats wat I can get.I think this is Ok for a secondary tv but wud be planning for a bigger/branded one next.

    • That sounds like processor issues, rather than remote control lag.

      • That sounds like processor issues, rather than remote control lag.

So you're admitting Kogan TV's are useless pieces of shit, but also claiming they're bargains because they're cheap?

        • -1

And you're calling an entire range of TVs from an entire brand "useless pieces of shit" based on the anecdotal evidence of a single person?

          GTFO

        • -1

@BTRaynes: anecdotal evidence from a 2 yr old tv at that lol

  • +1

There's no mention of HDCP version (DRM), so it's not guaranteed to be compatible with future 4K Blu-Ray discs. There's a fallback to 1080P if it's an older HDCP but more information from Kogan would be nice.

"Early 4K adopters (even those with HDMI 2.0 capabilities) will probably need to upgrade their hardware again, as HDCP 2.2 can't be enabled via firmware updates."

    • Who ever purchased the Sony KD49X8500B during the boxing day sale will be happy to know this TV and most 2014 sony's tvs support HDCP 2.2 on hdmi 1 and 2

    • +1

Also this doesn't support HEVC and also…

USB Media Playback Yes - Max resolution 720p

      (Surely that's not correct?)

  • Does it actually support 4k at 60fps from a PC? It doesn't list it in the supported resolutions.

    • If it says it supports hdmi2 which can do 4k@60hz, it will more depend on your PC output.
Most GFX cards atm do not support hdmi2.
Only way to get 4k@60hz is to use Display port (DP).

      • My GTX 970 does :-P

Although it'll be a cold day in hell before I upgrade from my 60" Samsung F8500 <3

I find the whole 4K a massive fad, especially at such a small size like this. If used just as a PC monitor it may be worth it, although I think for the price, the quality would be fairly poor.

  • Best bet is to wait for review.

    PC Supported Resolutions 640x480 @ 60Hz, 800x600 @ 60Hz, 1024x768 @ 60Hz, 1280x1024 @ 60Hz, 1366x768 @ 60Hz, 1920x1080 @ 60Hz

    Resolution 3840 x 2160

USB Media Playback Yes - Max resolution 720p

    yeah, ill pass.

    • PC Supported Resolutions 640x480 @ 60Hz, 800x600 @ 60Hz, 1024x768 @ 60Hz, 1280x1024 @ 60Hz, 1366x768 @ 60Hz, 1920x1080 @ 60Hz

That's by VGA, so standard. Who cares anyway. Sure, it would be great if it had DP but it's got HDMI 2.0 which is better than some TV's costing 10 times as much.

      Resolution 3840 x 2160

      Again, standard.

USB Media Playback Yes - Max resolution 720p

As I already said - probably a mistake, but if it is true then that's pretty silly.

  • TOTAL B/S, in AUS we struggle to get 1080HD free to air, ZERO point getting a 4k unless your using it for games/PC etc

    • We don't get any 1080HD (or 1080P).. The most we get is 1080i, and it's at such low bitrate it's absolutely laughable.

      • as someone who has very little idea what you are talking about, can you please explain to me what this means? should i go for this TV? i would mostly use it for watching cricket/footy, and gaming. maybe some downloaded tv series.

        • buy the best 1,080p FHD TV you can afford.

I bought a cheap as hell DSE FHD 40" and am happy with the purchase.

Also I think this kogan is the cheapest real 60hz 4k tv so its worth a post.

  • Will await to see a review first but this might be a nice candidate as a secondary 4k monitor for my laptop

  • Hey techies, need some advice…so if the max resolution on my PC's graphics card is 2560 x 1600, I should be able to use this for more 'viewing room' on my PC display compared to a 1080p output with an HDMI?
Seems very cheap for something this size and that resolution.

Would this work okay as a huge PC monitor? (everything even close to 32' or larger is like $1200+ it seems, this seems like a good budget solution).

    Cheers guys.
