Thanks OP. Nice first up post :)

  • Thanks for this.

While I have tried Bitdefender recently for approx 3 months, I found it was the root cause of blue screens that were occurring on my system, so back to ESET I went.

    • Interesting. I also have Bitdefender and get bluescreens.

    • Same here - Death by blue screen

    • Not running windows 8.1 by any chance?

      • No, Windows 7 Ultimate.

I think they've addressed this issue on their website: http://www.bitdefender.com.au/support/bsod-(blue-screen)-encountered-on-windows-vista-windows-7-after-installing-bitdefender-(-or-when-trying-to-open-safepay)-1205.html

      • Thanks, will give it a try.

      • This is listed under Total Security (2014).

The package I had installed which was causing blue screens was Internet Security (2015). I assume this fix would still fix the problem though, given the reasoning in that support article.

What actually happens: the computer stops responding when you run an application that uses the Windows Filtering Platform API in Windows. Bitdefender is such an application.

  • Used it for a few months and noticed that it would make my windows 8.1 start up extremely slow. Noticed also that I would always get dns errors for chrome or Firefox when I would start the browsers straight after launch. Returned to Norton for now. Not sluggish but I don't think the protection is as good as BD.

    • I have noticed these issues but didn't think to attribute it to Bitdefender. Now I know and will have to try something else. Thanks. :)

  • I used BitDefender a few months ago, now changed back to Norton 360.

you went BACK to norton? zomg Norton worst software ever imo.

  • Frankly when a software are always given out for free, I will seriously
    doubt its reliability.
The tested result of BD is always changing. One time it is good, another
    time it is bad.

    • Have you used it?

  • Bitdefender is fine with me.

Total Security is their highest offering and over Internet Security it has Online Storage, Anti-Theft and File Encryption.
I don't think the hassle up upgrade from Internet Security is worth it

I will back that up. I am using Internet security at the moment and i don't think the hassle to upgrade to Total security is worth it atm.

  • Not the most user friendly program. Took me a long time to work out how to restore a file and stop it from being detected as a virus. Doesn't help that it scans every DVD inserted either. I thought my drive was failing when I tried to install GTA V, but the scan was overworking it big time.

    • For Internet Security 2015, click 'Protection' button, then the gear/cog beside 'Antivirus', then the 'Exclusions' tab.

You have three options for both DVD and USB: Autoscan, Disabled, Ask everytime

It should be similar for the other products, you just need to find the 'Exclusions' under the Antivirus/scanning settings.

      • Yeah, I already found it, but the interface is still very crap.

  • I keep stacking all these with other Bitdefender deals from here.

Never had an issue with it (Windows 8.1) - runs flawlessly in the background.

  • It's aggressive but constantly gets good detection scores in av comparison tests.
    Double edged sword.

You may as well try "VDCYLI6" key to get few days ;)

  • Hoping they have another Mobile Security promo soon. Only just switched to Android from iOS and am using a Bitdefender Mobile Security trial at the moment :)

  • Got my current license extended by 20 days. Thanks!

  • I've had a lot of BD 2015 problems. 2014 was fine, but 2015 when I turn the firewall on, I get no internet access.

I've had other problems before reinstalling it too, like it started hanging my system within 5 minutes of booting up. System became unresponsive, like it crashed but I could still move my mouse. Removing it fixed the problem. Installed Webroot 2 week trial, when that ran out I was out of options so I reinstalled BD 2015, and from the next time I booted I could no longer use the firewall.

Tried reinstalling 2014, and it couldn't update.. when I tried to update, it had network problems with the update server.

I'm just praying 2016 releases soon and magically fixes all the problems 2015 gave me. That or someone recommends me a better product that's not too expensive.

I would prefer BD since it's always free, but 2015 is not useable for me.

  • i hate to say it but its mostly the safest viable security solution ,i have tried norton but it slows your pc, im using webroot secure anywhere, its pretty goog but not as reliable as Bitdefender in terms of identifying what kind of malicious file it is, usually it shows generic names, the problem i had with Bitdefender is that it hide my hidden folders and i cant change the preferences and yes i tried everything even with nfresh windows install and even with meddling with the registry manually.

    • My problem with Webroot is that you can't individually select apps or folders to block from accessing the internet. You can select from processes that are already running, but not processes that are yet to launch. Some processes launch by themselves or get launched by other processes, and you can't preemptively block them before they run.

That was a deal breaker. I looked up forum posts from YEARS ago about people complaining about the same thing, and the Rep would say, we're looking into it, we'll pass it on to the dev team. But still nothing, so I guess they didn't see it as a priority. Their defense was you can already block apps that are currently running, so why do you need this feature? Can't you just run the app and then block it? I think they're very naive if they think it's this simple.

A lot of apps contain several .exe files. You only launch the main one, and it launches the others as needed. They aren't designed for you to run individual exe files.

If they fixed this problem, I wouldn't mind subscribing to their product. I liked the rest of it.
