SANGUAN 1000 LUMEN SUPERLIGHT - REALLY PACKS A PUNCH

Recommended for those who particularly want something to mount to their helmet, this light beats many of the larger high-power lights by miles, simply because they are too large and heavy, and consequently require some fairly strong neck muscles to support both helmet and light. The Sanguan Thumb I headlight is the second lightest front light in the world and gets its' name from its' mini, thumb-size dimensions. You'll soon see why it's regarded as a very desirable high-power light when you take your incredibly lightweight, super compact, battery-operated, 1000 lumen front light for its' first night ride. Another plus for this particular product is the battery pack, which is smaller and lighter than your typical high power light, and is light enough that it can comfortably be stowed away in the back pocket of your jersey. Ultimately though, you can trust the rain and shock proof head with its' smooth aluminium reflector to improve your visibility in just about any low light situation you can get yourself into, and help you to reach your destination safe and sound.

SANGUAN 1000 LUMEN SUPERLIGHT - REALLY PACKS A PUNCH

    but then…

    • LED: CREE XM-L U2 LED

According to the CREE data sheet, the U2 max output is around 742lm at 2000mA, assuming your runtime and battery capacity is accurate, then it's only running at 700mA which means light output is really 300lm.

so you have the light mounted to your helmet and a cable running down to a battery pack somewhere, is that right OP?

      Yep

I have no experience with the rear light in this bundle, but I changed over to this front light recently for night road rides. Brilliant piece of gear. Agree with ozscaharfschutze above, it's not 1000 lumens, but it is plenty bright.

[Lumen ratings on lights nowadays are like mAh ratings on batteries, or wattage ratings on speakers in days of old. Much marketing in order to get big numbers. Always apply salt.]

I have quite a few different cree / 4x 18650 bike lights, and this is one of my two favourites.

The green backlight behind the power button is stupid bright, so if you handlebar mount (as I do) you'll need to cover the button with a little piece of gaffer tape or similar. No biggie.

Great small size for helmet mounting. Lovely smooth throw, no dark 'holes' in the light beam on the road.

I got mine from DX for about $25, but it was the light only, no battery, charger, tail light etc.

Looking for a front light for road riding, baulking at the $200+ the LBS wants for the exposure 'Joystick' lights they recommend. I have tried with some cheaper lower power lights but really, I need something powerful, some of my rides are in the Dandenongs at 5am and it is darker than a dog's guts up there, low power lights are useless. Not sure I want a seperate battery pack hanging off my frame though. Similarly not sure I want a helmet light, something on the handlebars would be OK. I cant understand why some of these type of lights seem to go for $300+ ish but then again, most things bike related seem to cost mega $$ these days.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. We're doing 6pm departures here in Tassie and it's full night. I find this light perfect for those rides.

I mount the battery pack on the down tube, and it's possible to run the wires nice and tidy. It's not perfect, but I personally prefer it this way, with as little clutter on the handlebar itself. I'm trying to work out a good way of internally mounting a 2x18650 pack - that would be very neat.

I'm out of fashion with the other guys in my bunch, but I buy all my (front) bike lights from China, DX or banggood, and I reckon they can't be beat for the $$$

I agree with guyvb, the cheap lights from Banggood/DX do the job, the CREE XML (or even better XML2) LEDs provide exceptional light in a small package. The battery packs/chargers that come with the lights are usually rubbish, so do prepare to spend a bit of money on good quality batteries, battery cases and chargers (which those sites also sell). You can use the chargers for normal rechargeable batteries (Eneloops anyone? :), and I got battery cases that also has USB output so it doubles a power bank.

This one is $10 more but has twice the battery capacity. And both use the CREE XM-L U2. I think the longer battery life would be useful.

We're offering a free rear light & Free shipping

      • +1

You're right. I didn't mention the rear light. I don't think many people care about the rear light because they most probably have one that suffices. The other alternative I listed above also offered free shipping (but no rear light). I still think the extra battery power is useful because a couple of hours usage on your offering might not be enough (but admittedly lighter).
