Sony Xperia Z2 Screen Repair

Hello OzB, hope you're well. My Sony Xperia Z2 recently took a fall and the screen shattered. I would like to discuss the most economical method of moving forward.

I see three options:
1. Repair the screen using a professional repair company (around $169)
2. Repair the screen myself (seen kits for about $70)
3. Buy another cheap and decent android phone (I was never very impressed with the Z2 anyway)

Do any of you have any experience with this? What did you do, and/or who did you use for repairs? Any suggestions for a cheap, full-featured replacement phone?

Thanks for dropping by guys :)

  • Hello,

    I'd go option 2.

Then when it breaks again, go option 3.

  • Z2 is a fantastic phone. If you have the competence fix it yourself I guess seeing you already suggested it. It sell it of yo someone they can fix it and use the cash to buy a replacement

  • I fixed my HTC sensation myself ages ago ,I'm sure there a tutorial somewhere on www internet thingy.

  • A bit off topic, but can the Z2 play FLAC music? (I got the Z3, but want to keep a second one permanently in my car)

    Option 2

    • Yes it can

  • +1 for getting a professional to do it if they guarantee it to be waterproof

i would not do anything myself if you need it to be waterproof. the fact that i can wash my phone is worth every penny (to me)

  • If you want waterproof go with Sony's repair centre, probably Fonebiz. (but that might be $200+)
Most professional repair places don't guarantee waterproof, so you might as well fix it yourself. I fixed my Z1 Compact myself, all you need is the tools that come with the replacement screen and a hair dryer.

  • Option 2,

Only takes 4 screws and unplugging 3 connecting strips to replace the screen.
    Very straightforward.

    Good luck!
