Work bench / vice - any recommendations or experience?

Just moved into a new place without a garage or any dedicated workspace. So having no vice, i now need something for sawing, grinding, filing etc - had a quick look at bunnings/masters at these kind of adjustable benches - what are your experiences and thoughts ? Cheers

  • If you are looking at these and need to ask then the craft right one will be good enough for you.

  • Was asking more for for opinions on this type of bench - not a comparison between the three that bunning stock. Truth is id probably go the $99 ryobi one as its gonn last lot longer with steel construction. Thanks for the input all the same mate

  • I think Davros was trying to gently say these are all pieces of garbage.
I have one I occasionally use to hold up the other end of something long I am working on. That is about all they are useful for.
A good workbench will have a very heavy top. Mine is two pieces of 3cm thick veneered particle board I salvaged from an old built-in wardrobe somebody was tossing out, framed up and cross braced. It is rock solid. The framing timber is DAR pine and looks nice, but probably cost $50.
I have a 60 yro vise I got from a garage sale for about $20. I think mine is Dawn, but any of the old English or Australia brands will be equally bullet proof and last a lifetime.
Edit: the vise is a Record.

    • Yep, thats what i was getting at-they all look pretty flimsy to me but was hoping they may be ok if you plant your feet on them, especially the hogher end b&d model at COTD

Came across another fold up type just now, has a few decent review on amazon etc
