Hi, I just saw this deal this morning from Android Police. It looks like not a bad deal, compared to the similar ones posted before.

  • I thought for a 40W charger, there are at least 3 >2A outputs. Sadly, it only owns 2 2.4A ports, while the rest three are all 1A outputs. Sorry for not checking the details. In this case, it is not that a good deal. :(

  • Two 5V2.4A USB ports and three 5V1A USB Ports.
So in conclusion, only 2 USEFUL charging ports unless you have decades to wait to charge your device.

Not a very good charger, but good effort for posting OP.

    • Sometimes having a free USB port can mean something. 5 port USB charger would definitely reduce the clutter near the power plug. Not to mention, the last deal I've seen with 2 5V 2.1A USB port was $16+, you pay around ~$7 for 3 ports that you can use for charging things overnight. Is it worth it? That'd depend on whether you have a lot of devices.

    • Good job posting. The detail is in the fine print usually. Most can't fast charge all the ports such as this. I've been looking for one that can do 3+ ports @ 2.4A or even better would be a Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 one.

        • This Tronsmart is a dollar more but is surely a better deal, as ALL ports can be used universally:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195266

I bought one and it arrived last week and has been great! ALL ports can be used for full or low power devices, we don't have to worry about which port things are plugged into. It's impossible to explain to our visiting parents, guests, children of guests etc that only SOME ports work with their iPads and plugging it into a Samsung charger won't work or vice versa, so it's much easier getting somethng that works universally with everything.

Keep in mind that you have to make sure your cables are also up to task - most USB cables will NOT handle anything above about 1 or 1.2 amps. Cheapy $1 USB cables will be lucky to even handle 600mA in my experience, as some are so poorly made. Even the good quality cable that came with the wife's Galaxy S3 will only reliably handle a maximum of 1.2 amps, the voltage drops too far below USB spec at about 1.4 amps. (the phone only needs 900mA so that's OK.) I assume anything requiring 2.4 amps would come with a high-power cable anyway, but just be sure to mark them as such, otherwise if you try to plug a 2.4A device into a 2.4A port using a cheap cable, you might only be getting half the charging current or less.

        • @greenie4242: Tronsmart looks similar to the mbeat in that 8A is shared across the 5 ports.

For those people who want a local product, mbeat is an valid, but more expensive option.

Too bad you cant bring the Anker ones in. Those are the best ones in my opinion.

    • Agreed.
      Using one right now.

      • Same I brought one in using reship, I regret not buying three more.

    • Unrelated: if i have a USB3.0 Hub and connect a USB2.0 device/hub to it will it slow down all my devices on the USB3.0 hub?

      • Powered or unpowered USB Hub ?

        • only powered

  • Can someone educate me… Why are we all so focused on 2.4amp charging? I've a few devices needing USB charging. My Samsung phone is the fastest charging one and it's charger is only 1.55amp. I haven't measured it's draw yet. My assorted android tablets draw in a peak of 1.4amps for the first few minutes then settle down to 0.8amps the rest of the time. This is from a charger rated at 2.4amps.

I haven't measured the draws from iOS devices in the house because I try to avoid any headaches related to them.

Anyway, from the numbers I'm seeing, I'm not getting much benefit from 2amp rated chargers. Certainly not like when we jumped to 1amp from 500milliamps from a few years ago - I remember the massive difference in charging times in my devices then.

    • I suppose you have kind of answered your own question there. You are right, the maximum charge is 2.x A but typically the devices do not charge at this rate. However, as you have said, it does charge at >1 Amp - which the 1A ports do not give ("up to 1A" and "Up to 2.4A" etc). So whilst the device does not necessarily use the entire 2A flow, it is still using more than 1A and still would be "better" by 0.5 A or so. We are talking about a full charge in 2 hours as opposed to 3 hours as an example.

      • Thanks for replying. That 1.4amp draw that I mentioned really did occur for just a few minutes ~ I haven't measured it, but probably less than 2 minutes. Pretty much the first few moments after plugging it in. :(

  • I bought this one, it's very good:

That looks identical to my Tronsmart which I bought using ausmechkeyboard's cheaper deal here:

EDIT: Yep, the photos on both chargers say "Manufactured by Shenzhen Shebel Science and Technology" so they're just re-branded.

You are right, they look the same!
Yours with the coupon is USD 1 cheaper, so a better deal. Although mine came with an Australian plug.

Might be worth getting this one: http://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-40W-Smart-5-Port-High-Spee…

As far as I can see it looks the same as the white one, but it's USD 1 cheaper. And you can probably request the Australian plug.

IAC I have had mine for a month or so and it works very well.

The Tronsmart came with a US style power cable but also came with an Australian adaptor. I wouldn't recommend using the adaptor, they are very poor quality and don't always provide a reliable connection.

Just use an Australian plug Figure-8 power cable:
          https://www.google.com/search?q=figure+8+power+cable

These come standard with many chargers, set-top boxes and other 2-pin mains devices. Most techy-type people have a few spares lying around. I also use them with Apple laptop and iPad/iPod chargers instead of the AU plug they come standard with, as it adds a long cord plus doesn't put so much weight on the powerboard.
