Recommend Me an Android Phone (Budget: $500 Max)

Hi,

My partner's birthday is coming up in August, and I'll thought I'll start the search for a birthday present early just in case a good deal pops up between now and then.

I know she wants a new Android phone, and it will be her first Android phone, been using a Blackberry for the past 2 years. Her main requirements are:

  1. Good battery life
  2. Good camera
  3. Not too big size wise. Preferably not more than 5 inch in terms of screen size. I have a Oneplus One and she finds it too big. This seems to be the most annoying requirement as all the new phones seem to have large screens.
  4. Apparently she's not a big fan of Samsung's phones.

I'm happy to go over the budget it it fits all the requirements above. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

I would advise against this phone. I have one, it looks very slick, nice thin design. Every now and then it is slow like molasses (Huawei used their own Kirin CPU in this phone). You start something or invoke "task manager" to switch to another application… and you wait… wait more… just a bit more… …."four Mississippi's, 5 Mississippi's…". Battery life is average, phone needs to be charged every night. Not a single standout feature compared to many other phones on the market. LG G3, although thicker than P7, is probably better value,

Whats wrong with the windows, huwei, alcatels that have been on here?
All have phone, camera, good battery and smaller than 5 inch
All leave $450 in your pocket

  • Nexus

    • Do you mean the Nexus 5? The 6 would be out of my budget

The camera is only an 8Mp snapper although with OIS it has a pretty good review.

It's by FAR the best range of handsets for the pure Android experience without all the other crap around it.

But if you need a better camera or you like other Manufacturer's "skins", or you don't mind waiting up to a year for updates from Google's releases (if you get them at all) than there are admittedly better options.

  • Get another blackberry.
