Best Thing to Do in Cairns for Non Swimmers for 5 Days. ($600 Budget for Activities)

I’m planning to go to Cairns with my girlfriend at the end of September. However, we don’t know how to swim but we would like to experience the great barrier reef (Fitzroy and Green Island). Is there a way for us to experience snorkelling using some sort of floatation device (life vest) and any other activities we can try.

This will be a 5 days holiday with $600 budget each for activities only. First and last day are dedicated for the arrival and departure.

Don't remember the name where there is a rainforest that is close to carins where u catch a train up to the top (markets and shops up there) and y can walk down

Perhaps you could use this trip as a reason to both learn to swim between now and then? Three months is plenty of time.

They have underwater viewing platforms, some have tethered dive helmets.

Can do the train up and Skyrail back or vice versa, up top in Kuranda a thriving market place with a brilliant railway station and see the butterfly farm or do a bungy jump.

Hire car and take an hour drive to Port Douglas stop of at Palm Cove, on way back visit Mosman Gorge.

The RSL is a great place to eat cheaply on waterfront, all been done up of late with outdoor eating and coffee shop another place is Raw Prawn, entree, main course and glass of wine or beer for $25.

Check with the day trip operators but some should have an option to snorkel with a guide holding onto a floaty (as long as you're comfortable getting in the water). I've done it over 10 years ago though and even in Fiji a couple years ago one of the guides would pull along a floaty for those that can't swim.
