Edit: she meant $350ish. Its for the second guest bedroom, the one that we reserve for guests who have overstayed their welcome. So max size is 32". The mrs also uses that room as her office from time to time. It would be good if she could use it as a second monitor.

I also seek a cheap TV but to watch myself, and don't want DVD-playing or internet or recording, just a monitor with speakers.
I can't give a specific recommendation, but I think a year or so ago Choice commented that TVs from Kogan were poor value even at their low price, and suggested that you would do better to look out for a well-known brand at a price that was discounted, especially if only for being last year's model. In other words, what we do on OzBargain! In Choice April 2014 is a list of the "best of the best" TVs where there are only four brands. Samsung (large, medium, & small), LG (large, medium, & small), Panasonic (large & medium), and Sony (large & medium).
The last Choice review was Jan 2015 that had TV's from $349 to $4395. As such you get what you pay for @ ~$250 and you are either looking at Kogan or maybe a Soniq.
