Dear OzBargainers,

Mike here from MEElectronics. After our previous promotion several people asked for a discount on our popular Matrix2 wireless headphones, so we are again partnering with Noisy Motel to offer the Matrix2 at 25% off exclusively for OzBargain customers. We are also extending the same 25% off to the other Air-Fi wireless headphones in stock at Noisy Motel:

Matrix2 Hi-Fi Over-Ear Wired + Wireless Headphones with aptX, AAC, NFC: AUD $104.96 delivered after 25% off with coupon code OZB_AIRFI.

The Matrix2 is the second generation of our Hi-Fi wired+wireless headphone, tuned for a neutral and accurate sound with slight bass enhancement. It supports both aptX and AAC high-definition Bluetooth audio codecs to ensure as little audio compression as possible with every device. Other features include NFC connectivity, built in mic & controls, and wired audio functionality. Battery life is conservatively rated at 22 hours play/talk time and 350 hours standby. It has gotten some great audiophile reviews, for example from InnerFidelity and The Headphone List.

Venture Enhanced-Bass Over-Ear Wired + Wireless Headphones ($74.96 AUD delivered after coupon)

The Venture is an over-ear headphone in the same form factor as the Matrix2 and offers a more enhanced-bass sound, 18+ hour battery life, built in mic & controls, and wired audio functionality.

P.S. for those interested in following along with general MEElectronics news, we have just announced that we are changing our name to MEE audio this year! Not only was MEElectronics difficult for some people to spell and pronounce, we also felt that it no longer accurately reflects the company or our interests, passions, and expertise. There are no changes to our team or internal processes - our focus, as always, remains split between offering great customer service and developing products that deliver high value for money. Official announcement here.

  • Hi Mike, the Runaway in red is already sold out?

    • +1

Looks like it's on backorder now. May have only been one unit in stock in that color.

  • Mike - any chance you can do better on the Ventures ? $US 58 (~$AU76) delivered from Amazon. I know this is a better deal because its shipped from here and not the US and supports an Aussie retailer and a bloated Government (GST) but it would be great if you could sharpen that price a bit. (FWIW use my Matrix2s every day and they are awesome).

    • Wish I could but I don't have the flexibility to adjust coupons on the fly like I do for our own US store - the 25% discount is just one blanket code that applies to all the headphones listed here from Noisy Motel.

Cheers. Ordered one for the missus anyway.

  • Thumbs up for the name change, I always had the wrong spelling ;)

You are so not alone. We have a running list of all the ways people have misspelled MEElectronics.

      It's a long one.

Do Matrix2 have the same cushions around cans? I have the previous version and they are essentially on-ear headphones (cushion is too shallow, it does not reach my head), not over-ear like for example Bose QC25.

    • We have enlarged the cushions twice so far so it depends on which version you have. If they were purchased late last year or this year they should be the current version. There are plans to offer a large set of pads for them for the few customers who struggle with the current pad size, but that won't be until later this year.

  • Can anybody suggest which one will be good to connect to TV wirelessly?

    • +2

Important factors to consider would be form factor (on-ear/in-ear/over-ear) and what transmitter you are using. If your Bluetooth transmitter supports aptX, you really want aptX-enabled headphones to reduce the potential for lip-synching issues.

    Hi Mike,
Any chance for this code to extend to the sports range as well? I have been eyeing off those sport-fi X7s :)

    • Theheadphonelist suggests this might be a good pair too, but I don't think they've been reviewed yet.

      • I have seen about 2 or 3 reviews so far. Have been fairly good overall. Battery life is about the only downside really. But 4hrs is plenty for a work out :) My other option would be jaybird bluebuds x but trying to get them Australia for a reasonable price……

        • Can't modify the current code to include more products, unfortunately, but we should be able to do a separate Sport-Fi promotion with Noisy Motel later on. We are running very low on X7 inventory all around so can't guarantee it will be included.

        • Thanks for the quick response Mike. I will keep an eye open for a future Promo from you guys.

        • @mikemeelec:

Also interested in a deal on the X7s.

Unfortunately $80US for the X7s converts pretty poorly to $150AUS, which places them closer in price to the Jaybirds ($200 at Apple Store)

        • @Doineedthis: Understood. The exchange rate has been killer lately…

  • Any recommendations on 3.5mm or USB bluetooth transceiver/transmitter supporting AptX (and ideally AAC)?

There's a few on Amazon (which ship here), but the only two in Australia (at a low price range) seem to be these:

    http://au.creative.com/p/speakers/creative-bluetooth-audio-b…

USB is usually more difficult to set up but that Creative one is the sole exception because it installs itself as a USB audio device and handles everything internally. I know it supports aptX, and if you're transmitting to aptX-enabled headphones that will always be the codec you use. It's a good one if USB works for all of your applications.

We are getting ready to release our own transmitter, but it's more specialized for TVs and has a couple of extra features such as dual headphone support and optical input.

      • I neglected I'd also like/require something that is compatible with PS3 (and ideally Wii U, but mostly PS3). I don't particularly have an issue paying ~$100 for a transceiver with support for 1-2 bluetooth headsets.

        • If you're looking for 2-way communication (meaning both audio and mic/headset functionality) wirelessly, the PS3 does not currently support Bluetooth stereo headsets. You would have to buy a dedicated PS3 headset - one of those that don't use Bluetooth and come with a dedicated transceiver, like the Sony Pulse.

For 1-way communication (audio only) you can use any BT transmitter that plugs into the audio output of the TV that the PS3 is also plugged into (assuming you are sending audio via HDMI from the PS3 to the TV). You will not have headset functionality, but this will also let you use the wireless headset for non-PS3 TV duty as well.

This means no Creative USB dongle, of course - that one is for computers only. Our upcoming transmitter and the Scroptec one should both work. Ours just gives you some additional connectivity options.

        • @mikemeelec: Optical? ETA?

        • @Lukian: Optical & Analog (3.5mm or RCA) audio in. Launching next month. Sneak preview

        • @mikemeelec: Need any beta testers?

        • @Lukian: Production has already started so a little too late now, but if you've got a blog or something shoot me a PM and I'll see what we have in terms of samples once it's released.

I wish I could justify another set of headphones.

I recently had my matrix 2's break on me when plugging in the charger.

Sent mike a message and despite time difference he was quick to respond, request a couple of photos of the unit in question and a new set were promptly sent out.

I've given an upvote as I think it's a great deal.. And the after sale service is fantastic if you ever need to take it up.

  • Hi all. I've got headphones all over the house. I buy them searching for the magic bullet that's going to make music sound good again for someone with a substantial high-end hearing loss. The ones that come closest are those little Koss units that everyone recommends. Unfortunately, they're fragile and fiddly, and they're not going to help me listen to the tv either.

So, is there room in my life for the Matrix2? I'm a bit worried about the bass boost which is pretty much what I don't need. Also, my ears are kind of big (I think). Not grotesque big, but biggish. I'm feeling a bit guilty about the gadgets I've been buying lately, so if someone can do a bit of selling on me, I'd appreciate it. :P

Edit: The other ones I use quite a bit are Audio Technica AD700's.

    • The bass boost of the Matrix2 is very mild (you can see the frequency response plots in that InnerFidelity review I linked) but for an application like yours I would go for something with a boost in the upper midrange and lower treble frequencies, which are responsible for how easy voices and vocals are to discern, for example our M6 PRO in-ear monitors or Etymotic Research earphones. AD700s are also known for having pretty prominent vocals, if I remember correctly. We haven't made a non-in-ear headphone like that (yet).

      • Thanks for the information.

  • Any feedback on the AF72 Metro2?
Can these be used with any foam/gel tips from Comply's?

They kinda remind me of the Sony ones (which have been on sale a few times, but missed out on).
I'm also looking at the Jabra's options, the plus BT(?) with fm radio, but didn't seem to get great reviews on sound quality or the newer pulse with HR.

    • +1

Comply T500s will fit and some people have gotten T400s on there (it's a very tight fit).

  • Somewhat unhappy with my Matrix headset - 14 months old and they snapped just above one earpiece. (Gentle use of an hour or so a day, while out walking.)

They are offering a replacement set for for $43.80 plus shipping (I'm assuming that's US$ and shipping around $20, but the support rep didn't tell me how much shipping was after I sent my address so I'm trying again to get the info).

But much as I liked them when they weren't broken, I'm thinking I might go elsewhere for the next set - 14 months is poor for a set of (otherwise) quality headphones.

    • I'm sorry that this happened to your set - we definitely intend for them to last much longer, and we wouldn't be able to maintain the ~4.5 star average rating we have on Amazon for these if that wasn't the case for most people.

If you are interested in giving them another shot, I may be able to arrange for a more reasonable shipping cost and timeframe, maybe via the Noisy Motel. Please shoot me a PM with your email or order info if you want me to give it a shot.
