Finally, more competition for [Coles & Woolworths]

IT’S the discount chain which just beat Aldi to be named Britain’s best supermarket, and now it’s headed down under.
Coles and Woolworths are set to face even greater competition as German grocery store Lidl lays the ground to enter the local market, The Australian reports.

My News Years resolution was to avoid news.com.au - it's working out fabulously so far.
news.com.au says Lidl is opening; SMH says they currently have no plans to. Meh I'm doing alright with Aldi and Costco.
SMH is more sceptical:

The news.com.au story seems to have originated from The Australian. Not surprising, same Murdoch stable. Some would say sty.

Would be good if they did come here, I used to do a fair bit of shopping there in UK.
I heard about this more than six months ago, it was on the news. Nothing concrete just that they were starting to eye off locations etc.. I only noted it as we did our shopping at Lidl while in Germany and the UK in 2013. The store design and setup feels exactly like Aldi.
lolz a competitor to aldi
I wouldn't get too excited, it's just aldi. When i was in europe, i assumed they were the same company (but since found out they're competitors). They are set up exactly the same.
So what is the first store going to be?
It doesn't say. It's just seems more about protecting trademarks.
Always good for competition but I don't really see them having much of an effect on Coles and Woolies, more likely to take take custom off Aldi.
It's a shame one of the big players like Tesco don't give it a go across here. That would really mix things up.
news.com.au is a horrible source of news, its like the internets ACA.
