Karcher SC 1.020 Steam Cleaner $178 in Bunnings

40

Just bought one of these somewhere else for quite a bit more, and today found out that bunnings runs a special on it. It doesn't show as a special on their web page, but it was $248 before, and the cheapest I found online is $209.

Quite a useful household item if you like to keep you house clean - and with less time spent on cleaning! Cleans a lot of surfaces without any chemicals. It is not a cheap steamer that lazily puffs steam, this one actually pumps the steam at 3.2 bar pressure, displacing the dirt quite easily. It come with a few attachments - small round brush, medium size brush, floor brush, a couple of cloth pieces to put over the brushes, and also with 3 de-calcifying sticks.

    why are you looking at the prices now then? you should've done that before you bought…

      I bought it when bunnings price was still 248:( I am not looking for it now, but one of my mates who new that I am after one of these, told me today about bunnings special.

      P.S. Not sure when the price changed exactly - I last checked in store about a week ago.

  • I bought SC5.800 for $560 at Bunnings. Was selling for $799.

  • Thanks OP, missus is looking for one so just in time =)

  • Do these actually work/clean or just make the floor wet? I used a hand steamer in the past and it was near useless…

    • I have a unit similar to this; same price range too. I was expecting great things but it has failed to deliver on most counts. It cannot properly replace chemical or abrasive treatments for cleaning burner hobs, shower mold, grease from filters, carpet stains, etc. Would highly recommend to try before you buy.

      • It is definitely not a magic appliance. It has its uses where it excels though - just need to experiment. It is great for cleaning around the stove, (yet to try the oven, but read a lot of reviews that it works a treat there). Great for cleaning the tiles and the corners in the shower. Yet to try glass though, but it even has a special glass cleaning attachment (which is sold separately). And if you are repainting the house - forget sugar soap - the steamer and a cloth makes the job much quicker and easier.

        Did your steamer have the same pressure of steam? This is a crucial bit, not the same price range:)

          Mine apparently has more pressure - 3.5 vs 3.2 bar:

          http://www.vax.com.au/products/steam-cleaners/showProduct/33

          All it did to my (gas) stove was leave it wet, even when using the wire brush attachment. A $5 rotary wire brush on the end of an electric drill had all my hobs shiny in minutes. And just yesterday I tried to use it on the grease filters in the range-hood. Miserable fail. A pan of boiling water with some mild dish washing liquid and a couple of spoons of bicarb soda did what this $200 gizmo could not.

          I tried cleaning range hood filter with it too - not working for this, unfortunately. As I said, the device has its uses, your cannot expect it to clean absolutely everything.

          For rangehood grease filter, I just chuck it into the dishwasher.

  • this model is much better;

    you can get bunnings to price beat by 10% from here;

    http://www.justtools.com.au/karcher-1500w-steam-cleaner-sc25…

    it is the same model number.

    Much better model because you dont need to turn off the machine to refill.

    I have one and it is much better steam mob than all others as you can use any towel/sheet and it is alot stronger.

    • Yes, it is surely better, I was considering this model as well. After reading a bit I decided against the more expensive one. It has the same power, same pressure - all technical characteristics are identical - except the convenience that you can refill it without turning it off and releasing the pressure. Nice feature, but is it worth the extra $141? If you can afford it - great! It is not worth it for me, as I am not using the steamer all day every day and I can waste extra 3 minutes on a refill. The tank volume of 1 litre in these models and it is sufficient for 40-45 minutes of intensive cleaning (assuming that you wipe of the water after you steamed the surface). After this I am happy to have a break for 10 minutes!

        it ends up being $278.1 as per their price beat policy. So it will only be $100 more.

        But yes it will be up to the individual to decide whether or not it is worth $100.

        • Not really related question - I thought that their price beat policy means 10% off the difference in the price, isn't it? And their terms and conditions say that they will take into account shipping from the online store tha tyou are comparing against, which in case of justtools would add $13 in my case to the price of the steamer.

          BTW, justtools has most of the optional accessories for the Karcher steamers.

        • I bought from artarmon and they didnt factor in delivery costs

        • -2

          @kwaka:
          Correct. The price beat price would be 369 - ((369 - 309) * 1.1) = 303.

          You don't get 10% off the other company's price…

        • @Shonky:
          ivr got the receipt and it is 278.10.
          The wording also means that they will beat the competitors price by 10%
          refer to this
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/138737

        • Price beat policy is 10 per cent off the lower price.

        • -1

          @Shonky: Yes you do. Don't comment if you have no idea.

  • is this good for carpets?? i.e. getting out stains and freshening them up?

    • It does a good job cleaning carpet. I use the comb attachment. It blows all the crap from inside the carpet out which the Dyson couldn't.

      • Can it work with detergents as well?

        • Manual says no. The point is to clean most of the dirt without any chemicals.

          I didn't use this to clean carpets, so I am not sure though how this would be good for cleaning carpets. The steamer just displaces the dirt, but then you need to collect it. With hard surfaces you just wipe it of. With carpets- there are dedicated steam vacuums I believe.

    I bought this from the last bargain post.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/171999

    Same price

    I use this model on my wooden floorboards. It works well and cleans without chemicals. One tank does the whole house. Works well on windows as well.

    The dampness goes after a minute on the floor.

    It has no bells and whistles but seems to have reasonable pressure and capacity, so if you want it mainly for cleaning floors and windows it works well. It does not deliver a high powered jet of steam, more a consistent flow.

    You will need some towel atachments as they get dirty quickly.

    • Have you tried it on Carpet? Is it effective? I mainly have carpet in my home and would like something that will take out the odd strain and freshen up my carpets. Wondering if tis worth the investment OR just get a Pro to stream clean em instead (or If there another comparable machine to this that does a better/suitable job)
