Faulty LG Monitor 25UM65 from MSY?

Hey guys,

I bought an LG monitor from MSY last year for $268 and have been quite happy with it.

Over the last month, however, it's been intermittently and spontaneously flickering with 2-3 green horizontal lines across the screen. Additionally, several flickering red dots will pop up in the dark areas of any displaying images.

It's becoming a strain on my eyes but warranty returns with MSY are difficult to make. They need to be able to test for these green lines and red dots. The thing is - the lines and dots appear randomly i.e. they might not turn up at all or only for a little bit during use.

I've recorded these lines/dots at over 5 different times in the last month. Do you guys think this is sufficient evidence?

Thanks heaps.

Unless MSY can reproduce the fault its unlikely they will repair or replace it.

  • its the monitor and not the cable or connectors?

    • Thanks for the tip. I haven't tried another cable so will give it a shot tonight :)

      • sometimes even re-seating the cables, video cards help.

      • Using a different cable didn't work out. I'm still getting the same sporadic green lines across my screen. I think I'll contact LG tech support and have them diagnose the problem. If they approve of my warranty claim, I think MSY will honour it. Will let you guys know if I have any further issues.

May be the cables as PVA suggested, try different cables, and also may be the graphics card of your pc. To make sure it's the monitor use it with another device over a day or two and see if you still face the problem

  • Sounds like a video card issue. GPU overheating? thermal paste dried up? fan dust free and spins freely?

    • I'm running the monitor off my laptop. The laptop itself is a year old so I don't think it's my other hardware that's the problem.

  • Hey guys, I've figured out the problem and it seems to be bad HDMI ports. Any slight adjustment to the cable or vibration of the desk will disconnect the display. Do you guys think that problem is covered under warranty? It's been sitting at my desk for many months and I have rarely touched it so I don't believe that this is personal damage. Thanks.

    • Is the port on the monitor or laptop?

      • It's the port on the monitor. Thoughts?

        • Just go to the msy and show them the issue by moving the HDMI port. They will send it away to get it fixed.
