Looking for a Cassette Player

Hey fellow bargainers,

I am after a cheap cassette/tape player (can be portable). I have a number of cassettes that I'd like to enjoy again.

Has anyone bought one? do they still even make these?

Cheers!

  • try cash convertors or similar, I bet they are super cheap.

  • You can get a cassette to MP3 converter that has a USB interface for about $20 from eBay. That would allow you to enjoy them over and over again without wearing out the tape any more. No idea what the quality's like, I digitised all my cassettes before the great extinction.

  • try an op shop.

I recently borrowed my parents car (built last century). the cd player died in 5 minutes which let me with a tape deck. only mix tapes from the 90's. went to an op shop and bought some random 90 minute casettes and copied some cds onto them. tape deck. fast forwarding. it's was interesting how the reflex of stopping and starting the tape when fast forwarding to the next song kicked in so naturally after all these years of CDs/digital devices.

  • You need one of these
    http://usb.brando.com/usb-cassette-capture-player_p02409c035…

It converts your Cassette tapes into Mp3 format.

GearBest sells them for $17 USD but I'm sure a lot of other chinese sites will have it cheaper.

Jaycar sells similar stuff but they're not cheap.

Otherwise look into this cheap chinese casette player, looks dodgy as heck but you did say cheap…

  • I bought a USB powered cassette player / converter from Aldi last year for $17.99 — you might want to check whether they still have them. Nothing fancy about the converter, as it just gives you instructions on connecting the cable to mic-in on the computer and run Audacity.

  • Also try your Op Shop/Salvo store/Brotherhood/Vinnies, plenty to find there.
