I Need a Good Vibrator (Mobile Phone)

Hey,

I recently bought a Lumia 640, and while I really like the phone, it does not vibrate enough.

I used to have a Samsung Galaxy SII and it vibrated really well for the alarm. The reason I need a good vibrator is because I am hearing impaired and I rely on the vibrations to wake me up.

I would like an awesome Smartphone around the $300-400 mark.

Regards and Thanks!

the Sonys I have had and have now have a strong vibration for ring, notifications etc.
Son has a LG G3 and you can adjust the vibration intensity for different things - it has sliders to adjust vibration for ring, separate one for notifications, texts etc.

drop into a telstra store seeing their test phones work and try a few out, doesnt mean you have to buy from them.

we just got the LGG3 from Mobileciti (not mobiciti) for $430, fantastic phone for the price and completely Australian model, LG aust warranty, unlocked, unbranded.

Go and test a phone in-store? Wow, I overlooked that.

its the ideal way to really see whats suitable. I think Optus and Vodaphone have "live" phones as well.

You could try and buy a activity tracker that has a vibrating alarm function.

I have a Mi Band from Xiaomi and I use it as an alarm in the morning to wake me up.

The vibrations go on for 3 to 4 buzzes so that should wake you up.

You get get the Mi band for around 25 usually if you bought it online from a local online store, but can be cheaper if you bought it from an overseas online store.

    • I have a fitbit and its alarm is useless. Is it similar to the fitbit?

      • +3

In terms of activity tracking? yes

But I can't really compare the vibrations between the two.

But here is a post by another user which explains how the vibrating alarm works:

and a Youtube review of it:

          Awesome stuff! Thanks!

@parkermax: I'll second the Xiaomi. I bought one through the banggood deal on here a few weeks ago. I have my phone on silent now all the time and using the modified app on xda to get notifications for calls, sms, Google talk. The app allows different vibration patterns for different notifications. You can also set a different color for different notifications on the RGB leds. You'll "hear" your calls/notifications, provided the phone is within Bluetooth range, you won't even need it on you.

        • @CheepCheap:

+1 for the Xiaomi. Great battery life compared to other trackers.

        • +2

@mrmarkau67: Another +1 for the Xiaomi, that thing is amazing. That being said, the vibration is weak for me to use them as an alarm. It doesn't mean that Xiaomi MiBand sucks, when I sleep, I rarely get woken up by things (including thunderstorm etc etc).

        • @parkermax:
sounds like the xiaomi is what you need and a touch over $20 is worth a go.

      • That's a bummer that the fitbit alarm doesn't work for you. My Charge HR has no problem waking me up.

Or check COTD after dark sale. They sell good vibrators too.

    • +2

Thanks, but not the vibrator that I am after.

      • You could get the Nokia 3100,
The best vibrator in a phone I have ever had..

    This is a wind-up surely?

    • +14

I think they run on batteries! :-)

      • +1

Hahah. So do my hearing aids!

      • I prefer a pull-start.

  • +5

Would you consider a used one?

Get a Pebble when it goes on sale at Dick Smith. You'll love it. I wear mine to sleep (for alarms), to work (to check notifications and to receive phone calls discreetly without anyone noticing), swimming and cycling and even in the shower.

there's a whole heap of awesome apps for it, including fitness tracking and smart alarms

The problem is Microsoft and Pebble relations have sort of fizzled out… while they were working on some kind of app to support Pebble, it doesn't seem likely that one will come out this year. Regardless to use Pebble you'd need to get an Android device.

    • Agree, Pebble vibration is really good, wakes me up just from vibration.

I say this: "Your mind went there."

    You went first. lol

Apple iPhone (iMoan?) must have a decent (or indecent) vibrator function, because there's an app called iVibe Massager which pitches itself as a "great personal massager" which can be used on "personal areas to spice up your life.” No reviews of the app though, because of this

    • +2

The app is meh. Even a tiny one that runs on AAAs is much more enjoyable.

    • +1

there a million andoid apps like this too.

    What a pity carrots don't vibrate :(

    • +5

Buy a 5 carat ring and you will get vibration and suction…. At least in the short-term.

    • At least the mrs. won't chip her teeth, practising on a carrot.

reading so of the comments, check out the android watches as well and see how they are for vibration, you may even be able to keep your S2.
A watch vibrating when theres a call or alarm may be a heap better than just a phone

    • +1

Unfortunately, I had to replace the S2 with a new phone due to the fact it wasn't charging (2 techs tried fixing it, lol).

Thank you for your comment and I will look into the watches!

Have had a great laugh with all the " obvious comments " on anything that can be used to vibrate - make sure you have a heap of batteries for renewal on a regular basis!
However thinking outside the square - a simple little timer set up on your bedroom light switch would wake you up from the darkness of sleep. Sensor lights can do this too. Just a suggestion. We have sensor lights set up to come on with movement around our home & when they do come on it wakes you up very quickly.

Don't you mean "thinking outside the box"?

Get married. Best alarm in the world.

  • I have a HTC one x the vibrate is pretty strong

  • EDIT: To anyone who thinks that this post is inappropriate; I say this: "Your mind went there."

It most certainly didn't, you intended it.

    My mind went there

If you're looking for a phone, get those with metallic casing as they usually vibrate more violently such as HTC One…

    • true. or ones that are glass front and back like the sonys, new samsung and a few others.

  • Oh yeah, I want one too :)

  • YES! YES! YES!……… I Want What She Is Having !!!!!!!!!!!!!!???!

  • Sony Xperia Z3? Vibrates OK but more importantly it's water proof.. no, my recommendation has nothing to do with the post's title (wink wink).

If you can't "handle" it then Z3 Compact is also water proof.

    • +1

Yeah, no matter what people say, size does matter. I understand that some people like them big and fat, but sometimes smaller one can hit the sweet spot.

Obviously, I am talking about phones. I don't really like big phones, I think 5 inch is fairly big for a phone (still with bezel size at current level, I think 5 inch phones are alright). I probably wouldn't get something like a 6 inch phone, though I think it's pretty much preferences.

      • +1

        Too much information

      • +1

I like big phones and I cannot lie…

  • +3

A Hitachi will do the job!

  • You have to ask for a "back massager". Don't you know anything? ;-)

  • +2

How hearing-impaired are you? Do you have any strengths/weaknesses, like certain ranges?
I have "normal" hearing, and I still chose a certain ring tone, as it's the only one I can almost-always hear on a construction site. Even with ear-plugs in.
If it's only for waking-up, ie: not out-and-about… then you could connect your phone to a speaker-dock (LOUD!)

Otherwise, get the phone to vibrate the surface it's on - Unstable surfaces carry the vibration.

Even better, the surface you're on. - If you're trying to feel the vibration, maybe hang the phone (lanyard) against the bed-frame, near your head.

  • For added vibration, any washer or dryer will do the trick.
