Harvey Norman - Epson 4640 Multi Function Printer $268 ($168 after $100 Cashback)

70

Been looking for a multi-function printer with duplex printing/copying/scanning for ages.

If you spend another $32 you can use AMEX offer to get price down to $250. I ended up buying an electric blanket for $29, then choosing delivery to push it over $300. Got confirmation email from AMEX today regarding $50 back.

Cheapest on Staticice.

Monchrome less than 2c per page, and about 8c per page for colour.

I'm actually looking for something like this, but I'd rather non-inkjet to save on ongoing costs.
Do you know if this has a feed for a scanner too?

    • Duplex Scan and Copy with page feed. New ink system is apparently cheaper than laser?

        Apparently cheaper than laser…

        No one should buy inkjet

      • It's a giant beast of a thing for inkjet. Colour laser, understandable, inkjet…its ridiculous .

        • +1

It is a bit taller than your average multifunction because it has two paper trays underneath with 500 page total capacity. Also a feeder at the back for envelopes or specialty paper.

Footprint is around the same as most multifunctions.

  • This much money just for a multifunction inkjet printer. Where is the bargain?.

If you print a lot, get a laser.
Toner are much more cost efficient than ink.

The genuine black XL cartridges (around $50) are good for 2400 pages. That's significantly cheaper than toner.

    • +1

786XL Black cartridge yields 2,600 pages and colour 2,000 pages (4 Reams of paper). Can pick up a complete replacement set of 4 786XL cartridges for under $200. Non genuine a lot cheaper.

Epson claims that new PrecisionCore inkjet technology is half the price of laser:-

      PRECISIONCORE - PERFORMANCE BEYOND LASER
Powered by PrecisionCore, this all-in-one delivers fast, high-quality prints, up to 50 percent lower printing costs vs. colour laser, up to 580-sheet paper capacity, auto 2-sided print/copy/scan and 30,000-page monthly duty cycle2.

    • It hasn't received many positive votes.

Got the 4630 late last year. Was about the same price as this and also had a cash back deal. The 4640 has an extra paper tray and larger lcd display. Came with a set of 786 cartridges (900 pages - lower capacity than the 786XL). Also got 2 x $40 vouchers to spend with Epson when the unit was registered and a certificate to upgrade warranty to on-site. Have spent the $80 in vouchers on some spare black ink cartridges, still only used a fraction of the original ink cartridges.

Good deal for small business or home user that wants duplex scan/copy/fax/print, two paper trays and cheap cost per page. It will end up cheaper in the long run than cheaper colour inkjet printers as the cost per printed page is lower.

Probably not good enough if you are into photography and printing you own photos.
