My condolences. Oh well, on the brighter side you have new brushes to play with!

Haha thanks…might buy some as a pressie as everyone raves about them. Going to test them out today. Would you have any recommendations for a product for cleaning them?

I really hope you have a Daiso store near you because the Daiso Sponge Detergent is wonderful, and at $2.80 a bottle!

Some people resort to buying them on eBay at ridiculously jacked up prices.

          It looks like this: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/daiso-detergent

Have fun! I hope you love them, I've been using mine for over a year now - still going strong :)

        • @I-like-cheap: thanks for the info :) unfortunately I live in the country so not access to that store but will check out the product online and see what the best option is :)

@Hipmumma: I've always just followed Bobbi Brown's advice:

The best and most thorough method for cleaning your makeup brushes requires only water and either a gentle soap or brush cleanser. Using plain soap and water can dry out the brush's bristles, especially if they're made of natural hair. [Editor's Note: Try one part baby shampoo to four parts water.] Wet the bristles with lukewarm water, place a drop of cleanser into the palm of your hand, and gently massage the tips of the bristles in your palm. Always remember to keep the base of the brush head away from soap and water. The bristles are glued to the base, and water and detergent can cause the glue to disintegrate and the bristles to come loose and shed.

Rinse the bristles, squeeze out the excess moisture with a clean towel, reshape the brush head, and let the brush dry with its bristles hanging off the edge of a counter. This allows the brush head to dry into a perfect shape. Never let your brushes dry on a towel—the bristles can become mildewed.

        • @moocher:

Have you seen the Sigma brush spa? I use a silicone mitten with corrugations as a dupe, about $5 from eBay.
To clean I use baby shampoo with water.

        • @eve: Oooh, I didn't know about it until now. Thanks!

        • @moocher: Thankyou :)

I just use antibacterial hand soap. A MAC makeup artist suggested it to me.

  • iHerb have discontinued the best Real Techniques brush, the folding Kabuki brush. shakes fist

The best value here is the base and eye sets, plus the Expert brush.

    • I never got to try that brush dammit.

We're on the same wavelength, those are my favourites!

      • You missed out. Bristles soft, no shed at all and folded out wide making it great for bronzer. Will have to take extra care not to lose the one I have.

  • Does anyone know if they ship melatonin to Australia? Whirlpool gives me mixed results.

    • I've ordered it a number of times and never had any problems.

I have always ordered it amongst other things - supplements and teas etc.

    • If they don't ship it will say so when you go to check out. Tried to buy chia seeds recently and got a "computer says no" advice although many other food type products can be ordered and arrive fine. It's letting me checkout on a melatonin product. Whether it gets picked up by customs, who knows?

      • Customs is where I was getting the mixed results from on Whirlpool, because it's prescription only here when melatonin is the active ingredient, so I'll give it a shot.

    • I recently ordered it and my whole order came from NSW (from memory) so i dont think importing is an issue anymore unless they don't have it at their warehouse

      • +1

The shopping cart page said that they ship everything to their warehouse in Sydney and to you from there. Also mentioned that melatonin is prohibited, but I'll take the risk.

        • I've always been stopped at the cart from purchasing, but if it goes through I'll def take the risk. Melatonin shouldn't bloody have issues. I've been taking it for 14 years.

    • I have ordered it twice this year without any issues. I had ordered other items at the same time.

  • So as a gift to the missus, which one do I buy? I'll put in my 10,000 Vitamin D too as part of the order.

    • Can't go wrong with the Core Collection (4 face brushes) or Eyes Starter kit (5 eye brushes), unless she already has them.

But then again I wouldn't mind back-ups of these :)

But then again I wouldn't mind back-ups of these :)

One for home, one for the handbag? :)

        Edit: Mmm, travel size!

  • @i-like-cheap and @Sparkles - how do these brushes compare to, say Bobbi Brown ones (which are grossly overpriced, I know)

    • +1

I haven't touched Bobbi Brown brushes so I can't say sorry! I just know they're really soft and apply products well, they dry pretty quickly too. I really do think they're great value.

      • Thanks, good to know. They certainly look like they're better value anyway.

    • +1

I like them, and I'll stick with them (provided they don't keep discontinuing my faves). For the price the are really good. It seems wasteful to buy high end brushes when these do exactly the same job. I CANNOT STAND brushes that shed broken bristles on your face (Manicare and Artiste are THE WORST for this) and these Real Techniques do not do this at all. These come with the sparkles seal of approval which I don't give out lightly LOL.

    • I haven't used Bobbi Brown but I use MAC and I would say these are maybe not on par but pretty close. Both are hit and miss (mostly hit).

  • Is the free shipping over $40 standard now?

    • They seem to renew the offer each month, I hope it becomes permanent!

Incredibly fast shipping using the Aus Post option. My order was shipped on the 30th May, in my hand the morning of the 3rd June. DHL wouldn't have got it to me any faster!

I'm a guy, but there's something about make up that fascinates me. That you can transform a woman's face into something different. I like watching those Michelle Pham videos where she does various 'looks'. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the actual process of putting on someone's make up though.

  • That's weird, my order was shipped via AMS instead of Auspost. Haven't seen that before. No tracking number, but shipping estimates are similar to auspost.

    • That is strange. Mine is coming via Australia post.

      • Yeah all my previous free orders have too, I've not seen AMS before.
