Out of Pocket over $100 after "Hotels Combined" booking

I recently booked a hotel room at the Mercure in Albert Park Melbourne using www.hotelscombined.com.au in typical ozbargainer form I chose the cheapest option which was offered through a 3rd party site called "hotelsclick.com". I paid through paypal and was sent a successful confirmation. I attended the hotel and was told at reception there was no booking in existence, I showed them the receipt and confirmation on my phone and was told that this was fine and that it would be processed at that discounted rate, I was ensured by the receptionist I wouldn't be charged the full rate. A few days later I found that my debit card had been overdrawn due to the hotel taking the full room rate off my card, I only provided the details of the card so that they could take a $50 refundable bond type deposit. I then found out hotelsclick.com sent me an email at about 9.30pm the night of the hotel stay which was several hours after I had already been checked in. It stated that the hotel was unable to give me a room (despite the reception girl telling me they had an abundance of free rooms on the night) and that they would be refunding the payment, which they did, but I didn't realise this til a couple of days later. I have contacted the hotel and have just been mucked around and told I'll be contacted by management several times which hasn't happened and I have called up and lodged a claim with commonwealth bank, this was over 2 weeks ago and havn't heard anything from that either. I'm out of pocket over $100 bucks as well as over drawn bank fees and even overdrawn interest fees (bloody banks). My question is where do I stand with this situation? I want to pursue it, but due to the fact that I got the cancelation email i'm not sure that I will be successful, the fact that it was after I had checked in is one factor I think I have in my favour though. Please share your thoughts or similar experiences. Thanks for reading.

Mercure is part of the Accor hotel group. I would contact Accor HQ directly to get this sorted out.
