  • is this offer only when you use paypass for the $10 x 3 purchases or will it work with credit card purchases as well ?

  • Nowhere does it mention that the transactions must be PayPass on the offer page however one of the customer service reps informed me that the transactions must be done through PayPass. If that's true, there seems to be miscommunication and surely they'd have to honour non-Paypass transactions too then?

  • made 3 purchases for exact $10 using the cc and 3 purcahses for $11-13 using paypass. No $100yet:(

Opened my account when this post had around 500 clicks

  • Made 3 x >$10 paypass transactions, now the waiting begins.

My transactions didn't give 5% cash back, anyone know how long the cash backs take? With ING it normally gives the cash back as soon as payment is processed.

    • +2

      from http://mebank.com.au/lps/eta/payback-time/?cid=ETAC0015:

the 5% cash back will be paid into your account within 30 days after the date the transaction is debited to your account.

      • +2

I think the ING one says that too, but in practice they only take a couple days (i.e. when the transaction is processed).

It is pretty crappy if it takes a couple weeks with ME Bank.

Guess I will stay with ING after all.

        • Mine turned up after a couple of days.

Definitely noticed everything is more streamlined with CBA in comparison, but don't get 5%…

Anyway, 3 transactions done all on paypass, all more than $10 after the 5% off. And now we wait!

        • @Spackbace:

Hmm, my first transaction was 10 June, still no 5% cash back. Not that it's a lot of money, but doesn't convince me to use ME Bank at all.

Also did my 3 transactions on paypass, wonder when we will find out about the $100.

If I had known from the start about all the issues I wouldn't have bothered opening an account.

        • @Knightelf:

First transaction was June 9th, got cashback showing June 12th, but none showing from transactions on the 11th and 12th.

        • @Spackbace:

Weird. Is 5% cash back available on all new accounts? Could I have missed out on the cash back for some reason?

        • +2

          @Knightelf:

terms and conditions of cash back offer.
*Available if you open your first EveryDay Transaction Account (ETA) between 3/03/14 and 30/06/15. Receive 5% cash back on all contactless purchases made within Australia using Tap & Go for amounts of $100 or less for 6 months from the date your account is opened.

        • @CoolMJ:

Thanks. Guess I'll just wait for it to turn up.

        • @Knightelf:
Have had mine paid as a lump-sum for 3 cashback payments

        • @Spackbace:

Just got mine paid, took like 10 days or so…

  • +1

I will be peeved off if I do all this transfer money in, make the transactions and dont get the 100 dollars. If they dont pay it, I imagine there will be plenty of people who just CANCEL their accounts for this completely ridiculous promotion.

    • 5% back is still pretty good…

      • +1

looks like a 5 yr old wrote their internet banking site

    • I'm just going to cancel my account anyway… But would like $100 for my effort!

  • +3

Still haven't heard anything from ME Bank regarding my account created under the refer-a-friend offer.
    Pretty poor.

    • +2

      neither have I.

could be the crappiest promotion ever

  • +7

Would be nice to heard back from @MEBankScott on here

    • +2

there's an email coming out in the next week or two letting him know to come back here and reply.

      • 3weeks now, did the email ever arrive?

  • +2

What kind of a bank is not capable of timestamping the applications, separating them out in two groups depending on the time and sending two generic emails to each group? I could do this alone manually in a night, let alone a whole bank.
With proper software it could be done in minutes.

    • +1

I'm thinking maybe they want people to forget that they opened account, so they don't have to fork out the $100 per person. Then, once the promotion period is over (30 days), they'll start sending out reminder emails to everyone to fund their account for use. Trying to get more customers in the cheapest way possible. Pretty poor form if you ask me and not a good image for MEBank.

    • +5

      it's clear from:

      1) the crappy interface of online banking
      2) the way Scott came here and said he was from the company and everything was under control then disappeared without answering anyones questions at all and gave us false information as to emails being sent out
      3) the way that the terms and conditions were put up and then secretly modified and re uploaded to their site
      4) the fact that no one actually knows if they got in the first 2000 sign ups or not
      5) the fact no one knows if it was any transactions OR only paypass transactions

would you really trust a bank that stuffs everything up this much with your hard earned money? I for one will not be using them, and if the $100 isn't deposited as said, I'll be telling everyone never to use this shady bank.

      • They are ridiculously bad.

However, I've had success with similar promotions in the past ($50 promotion etc.), so it'll probably work. Give it the 30 days and we'll know for sure

  • +2

Hammer their Facebook page, only way we'll get answers on this

    • +1

      ME Hi David,
The deal is that the friend who has been referred has to complete 3 transactions of at least $10 within 30 days of the new account being opened. The $100 credit will be applied to both the existing customer's account and new account within 30 days of the third transaction being completed.
If these requirements have been met and the credit does not automatically appear within the 30 day period please give us a call on 13 15 63 and we will check this out further.
      Thanks!
      Roxy

      • i just got something similar from facebook last night too

        Hi Matt,
It's great to hear you were able to take advantage of our new promotion and refer your friend! The $100 should be deposited into both of your accounts within 30 days of his third transaction (providing he was one of the first 2000 customers to sign up for this promo). If the $100 isn't in within this time have your friend give us a call and we'll look into this further.
        Thanks!
        Roxy

        • +2

so they still have no way to tell who was in the first 2000 customers, even though they cut it off, they arent saying….

so you could do the three transactions on new account and still get 'sorry you werent in the first 2000' if its all upto them and a mystery

great promo Me Bank… wont be sticking around

        • @ShinjukuJR:

It's clearly a generic response imo, they aren't saying they don't know if you're eligible or not.

In my experience they have managed to make it work in previous $50 promotions (do a search here) so hopefully it will work. Let's wait out the 30 days and see.

        • +1

I've done my 3 transactions, Matt. So hopefully you and I get the $100 bonus. I've been paid since rebate so far… Haven't done the math yet though.

  • I got my paypass cashback still no $100tho.

    • +1

me too got the paypass cashback and I did the transactions on the 16th. the online banking is a joke, not organised just has three lines and no description of wtf it is …

at least ING says 'paypass cashback' or whatever and then the amount, this thing says 'INCOMING: Me 1100' then next line some other garbage then next line an amount ….

      still no $100 however,

      • I've had one paypass cashback so far, clearly labelled as such on the first of the 3 lines:

        Ref: PayPass Cashback
        From: ME 1100
        INWARD DIRECT CREDIT

        • +1

          19/06/2015 Ref: PayPass Cashback
          19/06/2015 From: ME 1100
          19/06/2015 INWARD DIRECT CREDIT $2.13 $154.17
          16/06/2015 MINI MART B-14:15 $17.50 $152.04
          17/06/2015 Ref: Not supplied
          17/06/2015 From: ING DIRECT

this is one transaction sending from ING I guess… who knows… and the cash refund, why does it need to take up SIX lines? why doesnt it take up TWO lines like every other flapping bank?

the most illogical internet banking setup ever used

        • @ShinjukuJR:

Your 6 lines looks like they belong to 3 separate transactions to me:

          • 3 lines for the paypass cashback of $2.13
          • 1 line for a purchase of $17.50
          • 2 lines for a inward transfer from ING (my inward transfer takes up 3 lines, with the third line saying "INWARD DIRECT CREDIT"
  • +3

I called them today and they said my referrer needs to also do the 3 x $10 transactions AND call them to qualify for the $100 deal. I'm sure they have retrospectively changed the offer on this and as we have all held up our side of the bargain and opened the account - many with emails to prove it - anyone with more spare time than me could start an action/petition for an action for misleading and deceptive conduct or similar on this. Might be more effective than simply cancelling the account. Office of Fair Trading, ASIC or APRA anyone? They got a bunch of new customers and accounts and as yet we have nada but a broken contract!

    • Office of Fair Trading, ASIC or APRA anyone?

Before we start lynch mobbing I think it's best to wait out the 30 days as Facebook replies have stated.

      • Normally I would agree but the previous posts evidence a clear pattern of behaviour including comments of previous deals not honoured, not to mention the new $50 referral deal which is undertaken in the midst of the confusion and post-deal change of terms. Someone is making profit - or their performance bonus perhaps out of this. Someone is also not playing cricket and MEFeels strongly it is someone at MEBank. More than enough for immediate action. As for FB… Yikes! What about telling the new customers directly what is going on. No, this stinks. Stuff up or not this has got to be addressed and it seemed the customers are getting short shrift. Next stop the regulators - was it $200,000 in deals offered all up? Boy they love those low hanging fat and easy fruit for their kpi's yummy yummy…

        • -4

Ok sure, you call your agencies etc, we'll just be here waiting patiently. I noticed you're new here so you're maybe not used to companies dragging their heels.

So far I have made over $5 out of ME Bank from paypass transactions. There is $0.01 left in my account, not being very beneficial to them at all.

So if you think ME Bank did this just for profits, then maybe you need to open your eyes.

Oh and reports of missed credit in previous deals is nothing to base an opinion on. Go back to those deals and see how many actually got the cash.

Posts like yours are seen frequently by people that don't know the word patience. 1 day you will learn :)

          TL;DR https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175147?page=1#comment
          People got the $50. Relax.

        • +2

@Spackbace: Hi all, I checked my account and now have my $100. Spackbace was correct. I will keep my account open with MEBank as they came through in the end.

    • +2

it's quite clear this bank isn't to be trusted with anything, they changed the terms and conditions mid way through the promotion and people don't know whether it's any 3 x $10 transactions or ONLY PayPass transactions and the reps on the phone and facebook and email have all given different answers.

Now you've got A DIFFERENT answer that both parties need to do the transactions, no where has this been mentioned anywhere in the T&C's and to be honest, is a completely bull thing to be told.

If anyone receives their $100, first thing I'm doing is closing my account. If I don't receive it, I'm closing my account. Either way, the poor performance from Scott at Me Bank in this post and the rest of the scam has been nothing short of poor.

The rep in this thread Scott has even logged on up until 16th but has refused to answer any questions, so no doubt they want to pull in 2000 new customers and give out nothing or at the very least, give vague information and keep changing the terms so not many or no people actually get it.

either way so far ME Bank has only themselves to blame for such a pathetically handled situation here.

  • Above in reply opps

  • +3

anyone received anything from this shoddy bank yet ?

    • Nope. Been waiting for a reply for ages now. The 30 days are almost over and no one even knows if they are going to get the $100 or not. Got fed the same line when I asked one of the customer service reps.

      • +4

The 30 days are almost over

How so? Deal posted on the 3rd June (21 days ago). Now I'm going to assume you signed up that day, but didn't start purchasing that day. Allowing for transferring funds in, receiving the card and making 3 purchases, there's like another week on top, meaning you've been waiting maybe 14 days.

Still got at least 2 weeks to go.

  • +1

    Hi folks,

Just double-checking whether the 3 x transactions need to be PayPass only? Or can they also be insert-chip transaction? I've seen reference to both in this thread & now I'm confused!

Also, my friend signed up but their identity couldn't be immediately verified online.. so they did it at the Post Office a week later. Any idea if they'd still be eligible, as they technically signed up and used their referral code that same night that the deal was on? Or does it no longer count because the account was only officially "opened" a week later when he verified his identity at the Post Office?

Confusing stuff! Might try to chat to a ME rep, but it doesn't sound like people have had much joy there.

    • Just use Paypass to be safe [i.e. do 3x supermarket checkouts if need be].

I saw a comment saying as long as you signed up in that time frame with the URL you will be fine, even if you had to do a security check after.

I would do your 3x Paypass before the 31st cut-off and just call them up after to ensure your application is processed.

      • Thanks, that sounds good!

For the 3 x PayPass - why is the cut-off the 31st? I thought it was 30 days after sign-up? I signed up on 3/6/15.

    • +2

it's confusing because ME Bank dont know what they are doing. They told a person it had to be three passpass tranctions. Told another person it could be any transactions. Told a person that BOTH parties had to do the transactions but wasnt sure if it was paypass or normal transactions.

They said we'd all get an email within a week confirming eligibility and that was a lie.

Don't bother calling to chat to a ME rep, they have absolutely no flapping idea

      • I spoke with someone on the phone - they said they didn't know enough about the refer-a-friend offer, and would get someone in Sales to call me.

This was weeks ago… never heard from them.

  • +2

Just an update - on the "account applied for" vs "account opened" question, here is what I got from MEbank:

Before saying yay or nay we’d need to speak with your family member and check everything out on their account. Generally they would need to have their ID verified by the 3rd but let’s not all jump in the boat at once on this one. The 30 day time frame is from when the account is opened not when the account is applied for.

    Bummer!

  • +2

Oh and, regarding the PayPass vs any-transaction question, here is what I got too:

I’d love to confirm if you have qualified or not but for this we need to speak with you or can also send in an email from your Internet Banking. If you did qualify you can do any old transaction that’s more the $10 bucks; PayPass, EFTPOS, BPAY there all good for the cash back.

Sounds like any transaction is OK. Good news, at least. :)

    • +1

$10 bucks and "there all good"

this could quite possibly be the worst bank in Australia lol

      • +2

Hahah. The message also started with "Yo", which felt uncomfortably casual for a bank-to-customer relationship eek.

I must say I also vehemently dislike their Online Banking platform, and the onboarding process for a new customer was a very poor user experience.

Makes you appreciate whoever you ARE with I guess.

        • Better than the CBA where you can only call up + have to wait ageees to speak with a rep.

        • +2

I think they're trying a bit too hard with the minimalist, modern day, trendy jargon language on their website and app. I honestly find it amusing. It baffles me that someone thought that it would be cool for a bank to use that language. That's just my opinion though, don't know how others like it.

        • @Mysterious: just reminds me of Optus and all the other companies where a really old person in charge of these campaigns says "this is a great idea, lets use young trendy words and we will really be loved by the younger people"

so then they force it and it sounds exactly like an old out of touch person is trying to be hip.

comes off as really poor and too try-hardy IMO :)

  • +5

any one had luck contacting these guy for the $100 ?

    • +7

Nope, let's give it another week though. it hasn't passed 30 days yet.

  • +3

Still no money yet. On the 9th of July it will be exactly 30 days since my 3rd $10 transaction. I'll give them a ring on the 10th if the money isn't there by then (which is what I'm expecting).

  • As a referrer should I make some $10 paypass purchases to be on the safe side? I think tomorrow (2nd July) would be the last day to do this.

    • +3

no harm in trying unless you cant be bothered. Too much effort involved in this offer anyway. I am going to stay away from this bank..

  • +2

I didn`t even get the cash back. Called them today and they said it might be due to the EFY, they are busy. She said the deadline for the cashback was also 30 days. What a serious bank!

  • +5

They said we will be receiving an email from them 'in the coming days'… and it's only been about 28 days since they said that for goodness sake. Give them a break.. they need time to compose the email!

    • +3

      Absolute joke of a promotion!

  • +8

Hadn't heard anything more since my last query so I messaged them again through online banking on 29/6. Got a reply yesterday saying:

Thank you for your email in relation to our 'Refer a Friend' offer.

I have spoken with our Marketing team and they have confirmed that you are indeed eligible. As per the offer terms and conditions ME will automatically credit the bonus within 30 days of the third eligible purchase.

Still don't understand why they can't/wouldn't do a bulk email to the 2000 eligible applicants, rather than have to respond on a case by case basis to potentially more than 2000 applicants, but in any case for those of you still seeking confirmation this method should work for you too.

As for the 5% paypass cashback credits, it seems (on my account at least, so presumably across the board) that they're processing these in batches on a weekly basis - I've been getting them every Friday, for eligible transactions made during the previous week.

    • +2

So when will it be 30 days for you?

      • +1

        15 .July me…

      • +1

        12 July here

      • +1

21/7 for me… hopefully some of you ahead of me can report back with confirmation/good news by then :)

        • 14th here, opened acc on the 3rd.

      • +1

11 July for me. I received the email confirming my account has been opened at 8.42am on 4 June - very close to the cut-off from what I understand. So no need to wait for the Melbourne Cup sweep to get my gambling fix for the year.

        • +1

Still no cashback for me after complaining two times. Opened the account on the 3rd June and not a single transaction has been cashbacked so far.

        • @noskich: I've had 3 lots credited to me. Have you been using PayPass?

        • @noskich:
When did you do your purchases? its 30 days after your 3 purchases.

edit, nevermind i thought you were talking about the referral credit.

        • @amelyn: Yes, paypass exclusevely

  • +2

Haven't received my $100 yet, but 30 days will be around 15th for me. I think next time MeBank does this they need a more transparent "Your referall credit is pending" system.

  • Opened 1st day of the deal.

    No news, no $100, nothing.

    *tumbleweed rolls by.

    Has anyone got the $100?

    • What date did you do your 3rd transaction?

      • Thanks for the reply.

It is based on your 3rd transaction (not opening date)? did my 3rd passpass on the 10th

        • Yep 30 days from then

        • @Spackbace: btw, how do you know? I see many people give conflicting timelines, most of which have passed.

    • To be fair, the T&C don't say 30 days since the acc opening, so i wouldn't draw any conclusions yet.. i'd give them benefit of the doubt until the day after 30 days since the 3rd $10 transaction.. then decide that they are not giving you the $100

      • that's because they CHANGED the T&C's!!!

        It DID say from opening!

        • I don't recall seeing anything about 30 days from account opening… pretty sure it was within 30 days of the third qualifying transaction when I applied in early June, and definitely sure it was the latter when I quoted the relevant bit in an earlier comment. In any case it would make sense for it to depend on when you finish making your 3 qualifying transaction, given that's a key (and final) requirement for getting the $100.

        • @quop: quote from original T&C's =

…will receive the offer subject to fulfilling the conditions of three or more transactions of more than $10 in the first 30 days after account opening.

        • +1

@Son ofa Zombie: Well if you read that quote correctly, it says that you need to do three $10 transactions within 30 days of account opening. It does not say that you get $100 in the first 30 days after account opening.

        • @Son ofa Zombie:

Your quote relates to the timeframe within which you need to fulfil the qualifying conditions in order to receive the bonus (make 3 purchases of more than $10 within 30 days of account opening).

That's diffrent to the timeframe within which ME Bank say they will credit your account with the bonus (within 30 days of the 3rd qualifying purchase).

In any case, assuming you've met all the other qualifying criteria, and based on your earlier comment, you should (in theory) receive your bonus by 10/7. Let us know how this actually turns out.

        • @mr_alligator:
interesting… haha… i guess you are correct from a possible lawyers interpretation. I understand that argument. I think though since this deal is offered to the public, the meaning must be the most obvious; 30 days to fulfil the contract - from opening - if the buyer has fulfiled their side of the contract. Otherwise they could say they acknowledge the debt, but choose to pay in 20 years time, etc.

        • @quop: not sure it was in the terms and conditions that they had to be paypass purchases. I always read three 'transactions'?

        • @mr_alligator: I think they retroactively edited that detail also. Regardless, i thought it was reasonable to assume it meant paypass transactions. Also did them at different stores and using it daily.

        • @mr_alligator:

You're quite right, for some reason I had paypass on my mind as I was writing that comment. I've corrected it now.

To be honest, I don't see the point in arguing between ourselves.
Fact is, it has been a terribly run promotion. We have been kept in the dark, and when people contact them they appear to receive conflicting information.
I am disappointed that it has gone this way, and I would never trust ME Bank with anything significant.
