Bricklayers - Midland/Austral Vs Brikmakers Bricks?

Would love to hear from builders, brickies (particularly) or anyone with a keen knowledge of the building materials/home industry.

Have a dilemma of choosing a project volume builder for a first house build (investment property) and was torn between the smoke and mirrors of all the different building company consultants who state that one type of brick is superior over the other or there is no difference.

Obviously those builders who use austral or midland bricks which are pricier spruik the better quality, build and product. Those with BGC insist it is structurally the same, still has to meet legal requirements and building codes, and is generally cheaper due to BGC group's economies of scale.

Would like to hear first hand particular brickies if you had an opinion or experience in both types of bricks and whether you would just go the cheaper house/product (builders who use BGC's brikmakers bricks typically) and save your money? Sort of like buying an affordable brand over a prada bag, still does the job etc just without the brand price tag?

Or is there a justifiable reason to pay more for midland/australia brick using builders?

  • No thoughts still from anyone regarding one type of bricks vs the other in relation to costs and what's being offered by various builders?

  • Most houses nowadays are built with common quick bricks (double height) and rendered after. The "quality" of brick really isn't a factor. If they are core filled blocks you'll have an incredibly strong and well insulated structure but it's not standard generally.
