A few deals posted last week on laundry powder. $9.60 for 5kg is less than $2 per kilo. Pick-up only but at least you can work the muscles carrying it to the car.

My first post, be gentle.

  • Good deal, I usually wait until its below the $2 per kg before I buy. I'll stock up, thanks.

    Before JV says it:
    1. How does it compare to last week's posts?
    2. What's the usual price? How is this a bargain?

      1. Cheaper than last week's post
      2. Usual price is $12

      Sorry toots.

      • And what was the price for last week's post? Link?

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/196057 some comments in the lower half of the post give per kg comparisons

650g for $1.70, works out to be $2.61 per kilo, however last weeks' post was DELIVERED. This one is pick-up so not a true comparison.

        • @D1977: This is true. Although for those us living near a Big W, it might not make a difference. Also, it's a pain to have stuff to delivered to an apartment, so pick-up is usually a better option for me.

How well does Duo clean? I thought from memory in a Choice magazine test, Duo was far from the best??

    • +7

Looks like Choice updated these in April this year.

      Front Loaders:

#1 Omos (same two as below): 74% score
      #2 Cold Power / Coles / Trimat: 71% score

      #30? Duo: 60% score
      (out of 40 tested)

      Top Loaders:

#1 BioZet attack airburst: 63% score (generally not cheap)
#2 Cold Power Maximum: 61% score (generally not cheap)
Omo (Ultimate): 59% score (generally not cheap)
Omo (with built in pre-treater) ($8/kg): 56% score - perhaps worth buying if 50% off
Coles ($4/1kg): 54% score - is this ever 50% off?
Cold Power (other formulas) ($7/kg): 53% score - perhaps worth buying if 50% off
      Woolworths Select ($4/kg): 51% score
      Trimat (Aldi): 50% score ($6/1.5kg)
      Drive: 50% score
      Duo: 49% score

As a top loader user I personally buy Trimat and Cold Power.
At minorly less cleaning efficiency technically Duo would save me >50% at Big W's price in this deal.

      • coles? Wow

        • Yeah same reaction from me too.

        • @delfredo:
          wonder where home brand stands!

        • @mrgeckoz: It (oddly) wasn't reviewed.
I am however amused that water (no additives) scores 49% for front-loader and 40% for top-loader.
Which is good to know when I start the machine before adding it, then later forgetting.

        • @Lukian:
i hate top loaders sooo much.
Rope up my shirts every single time

      • so dont get this then…

      • Thanks for posting these results. Looks like Radiance doesn't feature.

        • Radiance was in there, it was just very mediocre for the price.

        • @Lukian:
Glad that I couldn't pay for the Radiance items in my Amcal shopping cart then. :)

I have been using it for a number of years and in comparison to Cold Power and Dynamo liquid, I can't tell any difference. Having said this, I also add a scoop of Napisan to every wash so perhaps this makes the difference. For around 10 cents a wash, I can't complain.
