    Sounds legit…

  • bought the sd card version for my 3790

  • Does it work for 1390?

    • There is a device compatibility list (drop down list) on that ebay listing page. Nuvi 1390 and Nuvi 1390T are on that compatibility list.

  • Thank you boxbox! I bought one for my Nuvi 50.

Didn't all garmin units for a long time include lifetime updates for maps? Does this provide something extra?

    • From what I understand, it is only for the manufactuing lifetime of that particular model.

  • Will this be useless now Google had announced OFFLINE maps to be available very soon with turn by turn direction!!!

I think for that you would need to provide all your travel details back to google, so they can sell it to others!

  • Does the seller have an Online Store?

    • Seller is top rated

      • Don't they have a Top Rated Seller Badge anymore?

        • Yeah they removed the top rated seller badge, maybe about a month ago? There's only the premium service badge. It also doesn't appear to display the top rated seller wording on the mobile site, so it's easy to not realise.

  • I just purchased a new Garmin Nuvi but was thinking of keeping my Garmin 770 as a spare on what I can tell it works on this model but with getting lifetime maps on new model is this only good for the new model I have, for some reason my 770 model seem to can't unlock maps don't know if something has happened to me maps ad card or my model is on its way out,but it still find you places but still does miss out a lot of roads etc

  • Probably not worth the money. Our Garmin is still getting the free updates and I can tell you that the 2015 maps did not fix one single error in the previous version. There are still streets that don't exist, incorrect speed limits all over the place and highways that were diverted 5 years ago.

  • Mine says can't unlock maps any idea why my old Garmin says this?and my maps was purchased sometime ago now many years back but for some reason says this when turning on

  • Sounds like a downloaded pirated copy

Most Garmins now days have lifetime map updates anyway

    • That's what I was thinking. I have no proof though so cannot confirm.

        Onetime Map Update
A single update to replace your existing maps with the most current maps.
nüMaps Onetime Australia & New Zealand
        $99.00 AUD

So this is way to cheap compared to garmin's price

        • The link you posted seems to suggest that the map updates are digitally delivered. It says you have one year to download the file after buying it.

So it is safe to assume that any genuine map updates made thus far will be digital downloads and not physical media.
This makes it an extremely high possibility that maps peddled on ebay in the form of discs or sd cards are simply copies of the map data.

That and I've also seen Garmin map archives on pirate Bay before, with the DRM removed.

          Buy at your own discretion…

  • Has anyone received and installed there's yet?

    • I have received mine, tried to installed per instructions given… did'nt work so contacted seller.

I have been given manual way (step by step instructions )/ steps to follow, which I have not done yet.

    • Using Windows 8.1 and can't get to work using three different PC's so far.
Tried SD card and also GPS direct download and still no go.
Sent an email yesterday and another today with no answers so far, so not looking good.

      • I was given following work around… By the seller

here is a manual way to copy the maps to your Garmin unit directly from the CD, follow it carefully, and if you get stuck… just let me know and I will gladly assist further.

With your Garmin device still connected to your computer or re-connect it… I want you to go to "My Computer" in windows and open the drive of your Garmin Nuvi, which the drive will be labelled "Garmin" (Your Nuvi GPS appears and is accessible like a external hard drive to your computer)
        look for this folder:

        Map
(If this folder does not exist, create a new folder on your GPS unit called "Map", but must be in the main directory of your unit, not inside another folder…)

Next thing to do… Go back to "My computer"
right click on the CD and select 'open' so you can see the files and folders on the disc..

        Open the "Data" folder
You will see several files and folders inside the Data folder - Copy only the file gmapsupp to the "Map" folder on your GARMIN Nuvi

Once done - safely disconnect your Nuvi from your computer,
within the GPS unit, go into the main menu of your Nuvi, then select Tools
        select Settings
        then select Map
now select the 'Map info' option

it will show you its Australia and NZ 2016.10, which is the latest!
You will also see your old maps in there too… ensure to remove the tick in front of your old maps, by touching the "All" below your old maps… so there is only Australia and NZ 2014.40 that has a tick

      • All good now, just copied the main file from supplied disk to map directory and worked ok.

  • Another email for SD card……

I have just sent you a reply with manual instructions to copy the maps directly to your Garmin internal memory… if you wish to install to a SD card instead,
With your Garmin device still connected to your computer or re-connect it to your computer with the SD card inserted into it,
(if you got a SD card reader on your computer - you can simply insert the SD card straight into the card reader)

I want you to go to "My Computer" in windows and right click on the CD and select 'open' or similar (cause if you double click on the CD drive, it will bring up the installation program automatically, and you want to view the files and folders on the CD)

copy the "Data" folder to the SD card
Once you got the Data folder copied to the SD card, right click on the Data folder, select rename, then rename it to Garmin

….So what you have done is:
copied the Data folder to the SD card
Rename the Data folder to Garmin
Once done - safely disconnect your Nuvi from your computer or remove the SD card from your card reader, and insert it back into your Garmin GPS,
within the GPS unit, go into the main menu of your Nuvi, then select Tools
    select Settings
    then select Map
now select the 'Map info' option

it will show you its Australia and NZ 2016.10, which is the latest!
You will also see your old maps in there too… ensure to remove the tick in front of your old maps, by touching the "All" below your old maps… so there is only Australia and NZ 2016.10 that has a tick

Let me know how you go and I will assist further if you have no luck… but it should definitely work now!!

    Have a great day
