The "African American" version of GoPro is actually much better than the white one (lucky to own one and I am super happy with it).

How does this compare to something like a Xiaomi Yi?
Xiaomi does not have an LCD status display. That can be an issue as I cannot imagine how to change modes without an App on the phone. Useless in many situations. In general when I very quickly compared the SJ4000 and GoPro the GoPro seemed better built. But that may be just subjective and based on very brief comparison.
Depends on how heavy user you will be and what you want from your camera.
Does Go pro 3 white have LCD screen?? Or you need to buy a “Bacpac” add on?
Only the Hero 4 Silver has LCD builtin. All other models require the addon.
Is is good enough for general use? How oes this compare to the Silver Edition?

Depends on your definition of general use. In general (sic) this camera is not designed for general use. It is for a special use - action, sport, models,…. For general use use your standard point and shoot camera and you will get better results (and cheaper)

OK deal for a gopro but I think the Xiaomi Yi is better value.. Should give about the same quality video (1080p60).
Though the Xiaomi comes with no mounts, cases or extras for ~$90.

Without mounts then your just holding it and it wont be the same
From owning a whole range of the GoPro Hero3 Camera's it's a terrible camera for the price. Can't expect top video quality or the best photography, but there's plenty of editing available through GoPro's OSX and Windows studio software - excellent compatibility. Connects to the iOS/Droid devices via WiFi and the application, allowing you to save videos to your camera roll and edit settings, start videos etc. (keep in mind time lag of approx. 4.5 seconds on the Hero3 cameras). This camera is of similar quality to the newly announced Amateur GoPro, released with the hero4 series. The LCD bacpac is an external accessory that need be purchased as a standalone product.
Hope this helps for people wanting to know more I've many years experience with action cams.
You're calling it a terrible camera for the price yet posted this as a deal? I'm confused.
I hope to grab a gopro for diving and snorkeling, for at least quite a few years to come. (I am not a heavy action film-er only when I go holidays)
Would you recommend getting Hero4 black.. or Silver with LCD?
What price do you think would be a bargain or very good deal for it?
