Hi guys I am looking for a security system with 8 cameras.
Did bit of a research found a swann system 650TVL for $670 but not sure if 650TVL is good enough.
Getting some 720p and 1080p systems at around $300-400 on eBay but not sure about their quality.
Would appreciate your suggestions, or any better deals around.
Are you installing yourself or getting someone to do it ?
Do you know if it's hard to install?

If you have to ask this question, and can't answer it yourself, then for you, yes.
Doing myself. I'm not running 240v cable, it's just blue Ethernet cable. I'll have to mount cameras, run cable back to the central point where I have a PowerPoint the which gives me power and internet.
The hard3at part is setting it all up with correct settings to record and have live viewing in an app on my smartphone
3GB won't give you a whole lot of footage to look back on…
Motion sensor recording, at this stage only 4 cameras. I did a calculation and it was well over a week. More than enough for me.
You sure you don't mean 3TB?
What model camera did you get and from where?
Yeah the Swann stuff is pretty terrible. IP is the way to go if you doing a new install. Would you mind sharing what you bought and from where for under $500? I'm looking around for a system currently.
The cameras and DVR were from aliexpress, storage from MSY and all cables from Dick Smith when they had big specials.
How the installation went?

HIKVision seems to be popular at the moment to sit between the cheap Chinese crap and fully fledged Vivotek type systems. Might want to look in to them?
Thats the DVR I got, didn't get their cameras though.
I had a Swann system, 740tvl. It was horrible.
I've just bought 4 x IP cameras, 4 x 20m lengths of cat 6 cable, the power over Ethernet splitters, a DVR that has 8 x POE Portland a 3gb Purple Western Digital drive.
I'm installing it all tomorrow, cost me under $500.
