Introducing the world’s first Fraction Calculator packed with additional functions like … …fractions-to-decimals and a decimals-to-fractions calculator
Really? The early model Casio FX82 I picked up in '86 managed that quite well. As for "simplifying" fractions, I'd suggest you'd need to be able to do that before being trusted with anything with a battery in it…

I can see the uses - but "First"? I guess being IOS…

"Wife used it often to double-check kid's homework"

Wow; sounds like your wife should be doing her own homework.

I think this is uncalled for. As a high school teacher in the Penrith Valley, many of the parents of children we teach did not receive adequate education. Anything that would help any parent work with their child on their homework would be extremely helpful and is a great opportunity and should not be looked down upon.

That being said, I believe there are more useful calculator apps on iOS such as Tydlig and MyScript Calculator.

      • Thanks Habibby. They look like good apps.

I also sometimes use digits (not necessarily for fractions), but because it shows a history of my equations so they can be double checked. It's very handy for stepping through to the stage where a student injected the wrong answer (if you struggle with math). This won't work for fractions though - as digits doesn't support displaying fractions. it automatically converts them to decimals.

        • Yeah, I've heard good things about that app as well. I just haven't ever felt a need to do anything more complicated than what those two I've named above allow. Tydlig - (which is often free at times) has a large canvas that allows you to go back over your calculation history and on an iPad, allows you to drag answers to form new calculations.

Again, this all being said, I highly recommend a physical scientific calculator such as the Casio FX-82AU Terrys mentioned above.

"…many of the parents of children we teach did not receive adequate education".

Without doubt; a very good reason for the parents to strive to keep ahead of their children.

    • Now now. My wife is more than capable of solving fraction problems.

But sometimes you need some help to double-check answer for difficult fraction questions like "What must 4 1/7 be divided by to give 2 3/7 ?"

      • Eerrrr… wouldn't you find that by dividing 29 by 17 :-p I'd still be using a calculator to do that now tho. Not mocking - I remember my sad realisation of my degeneration when I spent 2 hours in my 30's staring at quadratics I'd first solved at 11, and realising I'd forgotten reversing signs to swap a value to the other side - a slightly basic principle indeed…

    • Logged in solely to neg this arrogant and uninformed viewpoint (i'm only 25 and have no kids, fwiw).

  • Can this app convert radian.arccosine(-1) into a fraction?

    • No

  • Thanks for sharing
