i think there was a thread a while back where someone had taken out a few credit cards for benefits, then cancelled them. Then found that their credit rating had plummeted because they had taken out so many cards.

I've taken up this offer - got approval and received the card a few weeks ago. The "$100 off a single shop offer" is linked to your Flybuys card, which you have to scan to redeem the offer (i.e. do a shop that totals over $100, scan the Flybuys card and then apparently a message comes up on the screen asking whether you'd like to redeem the $100 off your shop). The Ts & Cs state the offer will be activated on your Flybuys card within 3 weeks of the MasterCard being approved - problem is, it doesn't actually show up on your Flybuys account (or not anywhere the customer can see it anyway, so Flybuys customer service have told me) so you can't tell by logging into your account whether the offer has been activated yet or not. I've emailed Flybuys and am waiting for them to get back to me to confirm whether the $100 "credit" is available yet - I don't want to go and do a big shop at Coles, scan my Flybuys card and then nothing happens!
If this has no annual fee or other strings attached, why not get it? Spend the $100 than close the card if you don't need it. Read the T & Cs though; there's likely to be a catch somewhere……
