Looking to get a new iPad air 2 16gb wifi for my dad.
He has the 2nd gen iPad with the retina screen and 30 pin connector 16gb wifi.
A local apple store has offered a trade in of $120 and giving the final price of $500.
Keep in mind i'm after local stock, this a good deal?

Yes it sounds like the ipad 3 - retina + 30 pin connector; I have this model. Could probably fetch $180-$200 on Gumtree (more if you're lucky)

You will be able to sell it in Gumtree for better price. As I said before I got $200 for iPad 2 last month.
The Good Guys have the air 2 for $578. Maybe ask Apple to match that.
Managed to get one on ebay for $520 aus stock. Used the 10% off code on todays feature. If i sell it for $180 then effectively it would be $360 after trade in :D

not picking, I just asked cos we still have a first gen ipad, still works fine for email, flipboard etc.for us.(well my wife bought herself an asus android tablet to replace it, i use the ipad for reading / flipboard mainly)
ipads, i think, dont need updating so often - well maybe ours is way too old, but i dont get people updating from air to air2 for example.
if you sell your old ipad 2 in gumtree you will get around $200.
