Best Company for Back-Country Ski Insurance?

Hi all,

Not sure if this belongs in Sport or in Travel.

I'm planning a trip to Japan for next year to hopefully get some gnarly back-country/off piste and possibly cat-skiing powder. Unfortunately, most policies don't seem to cover back-country, and the only one I could find that did (insure4less), quoted at about 1100 for 2 months.
The Austrian Alpine Club offers a free insurance for members that covers cost of Search and Rescue, but I'd also like the possible medical costs to be covered.

Does anyone know of any other companies that can cover?

Thanks

Just about everyone excludes it as a matter of course because it's so risky.

Try calling one up and ask how much it is to have it added to a policy. A lot of them will be willing to listen and give you a quote.

Edit: just checked my work travel insurance (which also covers me for any leasure trips) and there are no activity excusions I can see except for professional sports. With Zurich. Approx $900 for 7 people for the year, 24 domestic trips, 12 international trips. Try an insurance broker. Let me know if you need details.

    • Thanks mate, will have a look at Brokers.
