Etoll Charges

Does anyone have issues sometimes where your etoll device doesn't scan while passing through tunnels or harbour bridge? when your device thingie gets scanned, does the cameras still take photos of your Vehicle?

  • It takes a pic and if the rego is linked to an account it will be deducted from your balance…no further action taken.

  • or maybe you shall pay RMS a visit to get a replacement, as chances are the battery in ur tag is dead.

  • Prob the battery, is it fine lending out your etag to another car/driver? That's what concerns me about taking a picture which I do not understand what's needed if the etag works.

    • If the etag worked, then the toll is charged to the account.

If the etag didn't work it's as if they didn't have a tag and they should pay up within the grace period.

      • In Melbourne your rego is on file for the etag so it just gets charged to your account, no need to pay within the grace period.

        • This is for when a friend is using the tag and it didn't work, as the OP asked just above. The picture will be of his friend's rego, not on file, and the tag didn't register.

  • Yes I understand but would like to know if you are carrying the tag, and it did beep, do those cameras still take a shot of your vehicle?

    • They are very specific about your photo being taken without an etag. However, none of them say if your photo is still taken with an etag which leads me to believe that they still do.

In fact, I had an etag stolen and Citylink said that they do have photos of the car using it but that the number plate is obscured by their system if you have a tag. I don't think it is obscured, they're just bull shitting and they do have full photos on file still.

      • Ironically it may be the Privacy Act/Privacy Principals that prevents them from telling you the number plate. Why don't they just state that instead of lying?

Of course they have images..especially if you dispute the etag charge (such as the tag being stolen).

    • On the M5 they do. They do this to make sure claiming the GST back is for privately registered vehicles only.

  • How about the harbour bridge?
