Dripbit Unlimited Backup - Lifetime Subscription $55US

Can someone pls take a look at this.. I'm on the road and only have a few mins to post this.
I'll check it out later tonight - but it only has 1 day left.

Not sure if this is $55 once for life.. or $55 a month or year. Confusing.

If its once off - it looks like a good deal.
Post it as a deal if its any good.

Thanks.

Looks to me like it's a $55 one-off for lifetime*. It's limited to 5 devices, 1TB of data, and 30 versions.

*It says 5 computers only. I'm not sure whether this means that you can nominate 5 devices to use the service, or, once you've used it on 5 devices you can't enrol any more - so it's effectively "spent" once you've gone through 5 PCs.

That said, my PCs tend to last me ~5 years each, so, if you only used it on one device at a time, then you could get ~25 years use out of it. Even if you used one device per year, in five years a 1TB backup will seem pretty pokey.

I wouldn't worry about the "expiring in 1 day". Stacksocial (the originator of this deal) does that to create urgency.
This site says May 22nd expiry:

    Techdirt has some skeptical discussion:

I haven't seen a review of the service anywhere, nor anybody who is using it. It appears the business has been going less than a year.
If I had to guess, this is a launch offer, or similar to kick them off. If they are successful, great, they can afford to support initial purchasers. If not, they will send out an email in 6 months saying "sorry, we're closing, no refunds".
I think it might work. If people are slow to back everything up they can probably keep a lid on total bandwidth required, and most people won't be able to use more than a few hundred GB. Besides, in a couple of years, Amazon E3 will probably drop to a few dollars per TB (currently it is about $30).

So I reckon it is worth a punt if you can live with the risk they might go belly up. If they stay in business it is a pretty good deal.

  • Yeah not so sure about it now.
Owner looks to be somewhat popular on FB & LI, but then the site backend is a dodgy mcdogerson drupal page run on on some cheap shared cpanel host.

Photo match for the 'What people say' testimonials on the front page of dripbit.com
I don't doubt these two people are real, but seems Ankur may have borrowed their photos.

Jerri T, happens to be Amanda Hinnant & says "Glad I found you guys. The backup process was easy to get going and now don't need to worry about my computer crashing. https://experts.missouri.edu/2013/01/14/amanda-hinnant/

Brian McMannus who happens to be Brian Person, supposedly "helps enterprise clients provide blow-away customer care to their customers across the social web"

I stopped digging at this point.

Thanks for also taking a look earlier, but I might give it a miss & suggest others do as well.
