My iPhone 5 stopped working a few weeks ago. It doesn't charge anymore and I've even tried different chargers/cables. It's only got cosmetic damage, scratches and what not. Is it reasonable for me to state my statutory rights? As I think it is reasonable for a $1000 phone to last longer than 2 years. My wife's iPhone 5 is working perfectly and its the same age. Basically, will Apple replace the phone even though its just over 6 months out of warranty?
Will Apple replace iPhone outside of 2 years?

Were you having issues with your power/ wake button?
Put your serial number here: https://www.apple.com/au/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/ your iPhone 5 might be available for a replacement under this program.
I took my iPhone in because the camera wouldn't focus. They asked me if I had issues with the power button - I did but only intermittently, they replaced for free because of the power button issue. If they replaced for the camera issue it would have cost me almost $400 for an out of warranty replacement.
If you take it to them and tell them you were having issues with the power button before the problem with not charging, they will likely replace for free. It might have a logic board issue.
why was this negged? lol
My guess is some Apple fans don't like seeing admissions of fallibility.
Haha I'm an apple fanboy I guess, but no tech is infallible :)
lol ye i guess so. I appreciate apple products for what they are. I have an ATV, MBP, ipad, iphone and ipod touch. But i appreciate Androids and under no illusions of owning superior products. The people who think Apple are invincible have issues lol.
I would take it to the genius bar and seek a repair/replacement assuming you haven't damaged it.
Worst case is they will offer a discounted refurb.
6 months is hard. few days, ok
best is you can buy "replacement" phone (refub i think) for a fraction of the cost, if the damage is not your fault.
go to apple store and ask.
