Filling up New Spa

Hi Guy's just finishing putting in a new outside spa/ hot tub.
I am almost ready to fill it up.
My question is do I fill it up cold garden tap and let the spa heater heat up the water?
or do I
Fill it up hot from the instant gas hot water service?

any help would be great

The Ozbargain method: wait for it to rain and redirect a down pipe to fill the spa and find a way to heat it with a fire

  • I have seen professional pool installers use a fire hydrant. In theory it will work for a spa too? Wouldn't it be cheaper for your water bill? However you may need to treat and circulate the water until it clears up and has a safe ph level.

You can't just use fire hydrant water. IF you're filling up a pool you have to pay for the water that goes in it.

      • Yeah they probably have a permit to do it. Still might be cheaper than the garden tap.

  • cost of the water isn't a big concern its more the cost of heating the water up.

  • Are you on off peak rates overnight?

You could fill it up cold, turn it on at night and let it heat up - may take a couple of nights actually if you use this method

    • only single rate..
I am thinking of putting in a small solar system later on and having it only heat during the day

      • Your neighbours will prefer this option as outdoor spas can make a lot of noise.

  • Using gas will be cheaper and faster than heating with the electric spa heater. IT will take a long time to get to spa water up to temperature using that method.

  • Have a nice warm bath instead. Allot cheaper!
