  • Just received my Asus Zenfone2 ZE551ML yesterday from eGlobal, tested on Antutu and scored 41,000 which is faster than my LG G2 but slight lower than my Note 3. Standby time seem to be very good, overnight drop from 84% to 81%.

    Give a warning to all people haven't with Kogan before. You will have big chance not getting your item after long time waiting and it takes same long time to get your refund. Kogan is more like to borrow money than sell products.

    • I had a bad experience this days with Itestate, when I bought a Sony Z2 from them.. 1 month waiting and I had to cancel the order and ask for my refund, cuz i don't think they will send it…

      So, is Kogan almost the same?

      • IT Estate doesn't usually sell phones, they sell computer parts just like MSY do, which they have locally in the warehouse.

        I have dealt with them twice in the past and they delivered up to standards, and made my graphics card RMA process relatively pain free. It's most likely they got swamped with orders and ran out of stock, and had to order more from another supplier or drop ship them, hence the long wait.

        Kogan is based in HK and their operations are mostly overseas, with only the customer service based in AU.

    At this price there are plenty of alternatives with better specs. Jiayu S3, Ecoo E04, Ulephone Be Touch etc.

  • rather buy a moto G 2nd gen….better ppi (5 inch 720p rather than 5.5 720) and better software and updates. Also front facing speakers

    • Moto G = 1GB ram = Will not touch ever.

    • I'm thinking about both …. So, 229 for the Moto G or 259 for the Zenfone 2 at DWIdigital ?

      Don't know which one should i choose…

      • go for Moto G for stability plus local support and warranty

      • +1

        Don't go for Moto G, 1GB is simply not enough. The OS will take up most of the 1GB, leaving little for running apps.

        It was bare minimum back in 2013 when the Gen 1 was released. Now, it's just laughable.

          the 1gb ram has no issues whatsoever. i listen to music whilst browsing without issues. the screen is really good and the battery life usually lasts me 2.5 days. camera is solid. Wait for Moto G to be $199, worth it for the quick android updates and local warranty IMO (PS i went form nexus 4 to Moto G, from 2gb ram to 1gb, and have not noticed a difference). PS lollipop is designed to run on 512MB ram as a minimum

        • @nathan-drake:

          Do you have fb, fb messenger, whatsapp, wechat installed? 1GB a little bit not enough.

        • @superforever:
          none of those, just Tinfoil. P.S. there are apps that can combine all those services into a single app (will help save some battery :-)

        • @nathan-drake:
          If you're happy with your purchase, that's great. But telling others "1gb ram has no issues whatsoever" is complete rubbish. It will run yes, but after the OS uses it's resources, you'll be left with about 500mb for apps and services (if you're lucky). This would be acceptable for $99 phone from Coles, but for the price Moto wants to charge, it's ridiculous.

        • I am using the Moto G 2gen and the 1g ram is not enough to power my viber and whatsapp plus internet browsing. I am getting lots of lag. Maybe it will worked much better without the Lollipop update. I will not know as I did the Lollipop update as soon as I unboxed the unit. I am seriously thinking of getting a Chinese phone as all the reviews and designs are so cool.

          @he88388:
          Xiaomi.

        • @he88388: I just upgraded from a 2nd gen moto g to this phone. Lollipop makes everything even laggier, don't bother with it.

          With the moto g, WhatsApp took 10 secs from open til I could type. With the zenfone 2 it takes 1

          @nathan-drake:

          So basically in today standard you got no apps on it.

          If no apps even my cheap Teltra tempo runs very smooth.

          @superforever:
          android 5.0.2 has a ram issue which will be rectified with 5.1 (its a widely known issue)

        • -1

          @nathan-drake:
          Actually it not completely fixed till 5.1.1.

          But this is only a memory leak problem, it won't increase ram available on initial boot.

    2gb of ram, faster Soc, better camera, 4g plus band 28 (if you get TW version), really the zenfone 2 is much better value at the end of the day. Personally if I was in the market for the zenfone 2, I'd get the TW version for $279 with express delivery.

  • Where can we get the TW version?

  • No band 28 700Mz - at least try to grab the model that fits Australian conditions Kogan..I'd neg, but that'd be a neg on Scrimshaw who did the legwork, not Kogans who aren't really doing us a favour :-p

    • +2

      You neg the deal, not the poster. If you feel this isn't a deal, neg away.

    Love this phone but it lags quite a bit and some apps just wont work because of the intel processor

    • +1

      Can you give examples of apps that won't work, pls. Thanks.

        Most noticeable for me is Instagram and essential anatomy.
        I do need the latter quite a bit but aside from these the phone is great :)

        • Just try Instagram, login with facebook, don't seem to have any issue. Mine is ZE551ML HK Version with 4GB RAM though.

  • Kogan u will regret it good luck getting things fixed rude staff don't reply to your emails be careful

  • would this be an upgrade over an LG G2 ? or the ze551ml version.

    I bought this to replace the wife's galaxy s4 which had had orange juice spilt on it and then dropped and screen smashed. The only complaint she has with it is the quality of the camera. When i use it it seems to take ok pictures.

    She is on fb, wechat, and chrome all day. Plays some blah saga blah.

    I bought it thinking it was the 4gb version. … but it was the 2gb version.

    Pros
    - seems quick to me
    - weekly software (android ) updates
    - price
    - quality is ok for the price.
    - micro sd
    - size

    cons
    - camera
    - auto screen brightness not as polished as sammy

    Overall i think it is a great phone.

    • Oh charge time seems very slow.. forgot to mention that.

      • I read that there's a special fast charger you can buy, 0-100% in an hour or something like that

        • Yeah i read that too. But it seemed that you could only get the fast charger in taiwan with the 4gb version. I bought a 2.4mh charger it came with a 2.0 mh kogan "fast charger". I found that the 2.4 made no difference (over the 2.0) still a little over 2 hrs to charge. The old 0.7mh charger i have would not charge it at all.

    • Dsnow, You know that spilling O.J. on her S4 wouldn't have mattered if you'd given her the waterproof s5 upgrade when she asked

      • She would have dropped that s5 and that would have hurt more. She used my old s3 till it magically stopped working so i wanted a cheap phone. Despite it not being a sammy she actually likes it :)

  • Hows the screen on this for any people that have it? What's it comparable to?

    • The screen is not bad. I don't think our is oled or amled. if i put it next to my s5 i can see a difference. But if i am just using the asus it is fine. photos look good movies look good. the wife reads chinese novels on it and she has not complained about pixel/font issues. i would probably get the 4gb version if i killed my s5. Not sure what I would compare it too. Better than an s1 s2 maybe on par with an s3? Maybe? Others?

  • Shipping is $22.99 for me. Not that great.

  • Has anyone had any issues with apps and the Intel Atom processor? Apps like Instagram, Snapchat, Clash of Clans, etc?

  • Back up to $279
