$26 Hydraulic Trolley Jack - 1400kg @ Supercheap Auto

481

Just saw this on the Supercheap website, half price car jack. In store it said $55 but when I paid it was only $25.87.

Pretty cheap for a Hydraulic Car Jack.

  • Sold out…

    • My apology. Still in stock. Must be a screen delay. +1 from me.

    • maybe it depends on your location? I just added one to cart

Sorry to hijack your post, but I wanted it higher up so more people read it - this same model jack was recalled in 2010 for being unsafe:

        https://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/997805

Some people might assume they are now selling safer models. But we all know what they say about people who assume…

        • Not a hinjacking. Don't worry.

There are always defect lots of any kind of product. Jacks can fail simply because bad maintenance/storage. Just make sure placing jack stands.

  • got one!

  • on their previous catalogue, it was on sale until last Sunday. May be still available online. BTW, anyone konw is there any jack stand on sale?

    • I couldn't see any jack stands on sale, the cheapest they had was about $50 today when I went in.

Yeah the hydraulic jack didn't say it was on sale in store but when I got to the register it came up as $26, same as the online price anyway :-)

"Yeah the hydraulic jack didn't say it was on sale in store"
Didn't know these hydraulic jacks could talk.. +1 for a talking hydraulic jack..

  • +5

This jack is safe to jack up medium and large cars, as well as SUVs, just do not get under your vehicle without jack stands in place and remember to rock the vehicle whilst on the stand to confirm before going under

    • +2

Good idea…although if I ever take the tyres off, I also slide these under the car as added safety…

    • Will 2 of this jacks under the car be safe enough?

      • +8

No. Because they have wheels, they can slide. Once you jack up the car, use jack stands and then lower the stack so the car rests on the jack stands.

        • +2

Dont forget to choke the opposite wheels when you jack up the car.

  • +6

They dont last very long from my experience, and +1 on investing in jack stands.

  • +7

no matter how cheap these are not worth the money. they barely lift a car high enough to remove the wheels and are poor quality.
the costco low profile, aluminum jacks are the only ones worth buying for a home jack

    • -5

Agreed. Waste of money at any price. They don't lift the car high enough. Can't believe they sell them… I bought mine for a similar price and have been meaning to return them.

    • +2

I've got this jack, it works fine.

It definitely can lift my car high enough to take off the wheels, I use it along side jack stands and have zero issues.

$26 for a back up jack is great. I use mine to hold my transmission or engine if I'm working on the mounts.

Definitely don't need to spend top dollar.

      • I purchased one of the s.c red ones years ago and just purchased this to leave in the boot, Never had a problem pulling wheels off or lifting the front for an oil change on any of my cars with these jacks

        • yep. i dunno what you guys are on

they work fine for tyre changes and BEAT THE HELL out of the OEM scissor jack included with cars

          they lift the car fine

only complaint i have is the drop mechanism isnt smooth

        • @tonyjzx:

          Completely agree.
I bought one of these last week and some axle stands (the $70 ones) and they worked perfectly.

I needed a jack that was low enough to get under my car as it's way too low to the ground and, with a little help from driving up onto a plank of wood, I was able to jack this up high enough to get the wheel off AND get the axle stand under.

Maybe the users experiencing problems were in 4x4's that were higher than normal.. ?

        • Working height range: 140 - 335mm

          says it right there

at max height you get more than a foot

i used mine on everything from import sports cars that are low to CUVs, more than enough lift

yeah, would not use it on a Landcruiser or something really tall

    • +2

I agree with this - have the same jack and it wont lift the car (commodore) high enough to put jack stands under.

What's far worse is that after about a year of use my jack does not stay up (slowly goes down) which is not only frustrating but extremely unsafe.

  • +7

Might be worth getting one before they jack up the prices =p

    • +7

But some are saying it aint worth jack sh*t

      • -2

Well I hear that bodybuilders do bicep curls with these to get jacked?

  • Will this jack be able to slide under a car thats of this ride height:
    Front = 202mm Rear = 230mm

    • Well if you went and looked at the item description it says it can lift between 140-335mm suggesting the jack has a height of 140mm.
I would just buy and try to jack up my car at the carpark, then return if it doesn't fit.

      • +1

The jack is higher in the middle, so while it says 140mm, it is actually higher than that. It may not slide under a car if the jack point is far inside the vehicle. If near the edge it might be OK.

@frutter you said you have 202mm clearance - that's with INFLATED tyres. If your tyre is flat and you have large tyres, you might lose 6-8cm of height as the car droops. It'll also droop on an angle, meaning one corner of the car will be even lower still. This is where you'll have problems with this jack. It may fit under the car while the car is in perfect order, but it may not fit when you actually need to use it, if you have a flat tyre or need to replace a broken suspension arm or saggy shock absorber or something.

Also it only lifts up to 335mm, your rear clearance is 230mm, so you'll only get 10.5cm lift. That's enough for a tyre change but a real squeeze if you're trying to work under the vehicle.

        • good thoughts!

I was given one of these and it's TOO TALL to be of any use. It just takes up garage space.

We have two trolley jacks at home, one fairly professional model, and somebody gave me this SuperCheap Auto one. The Supercheap one is so tall (14cm) that it couldn't actually get under the car when the car had a flat tyre! It just barely fits under our cars when all tyres are fully inflated, and I haven't lowered the cars or anything. The other jack is only about 8cm high and has no trouble getting under. I was hoping to use the Supercheap one more as it's very light and much smaller, but so far it's been completely useless. I haven't actually been able to use it for anything, whereas the other trolley jack gets weekly use.

Legal ride height minimum in NSW is 100mm, so this won't fit under some cars even with four fully inflated tyres. Even if your car is at a taller 150mm (which is a pretty standard height) this will only fit if the ground is COMPLETELY level, which many paths/driveways/garages are not. If the ground is just a little bit wonky, this won't be able to be rolled under.

It sounds like a bargain for changing flat tyres, but if the tyre is actually flat, your car may droop on that side meaning that corner will be even closer to the ground. Even if this fits your car when all the tyres are inflated, it may not fit when you need it, when the tyre is flat! It depends on the type of car, depends where it's parked, and probably depends on the type of rims you have fitted. Something to consider.

EDIT: I just had a chat to a friend with more experience with trolley jacks, he said it makes a big difference where your jacking points are on your car. If the jacking points are along the edge of the vehicle, this jack will probably be OK. Most of the cars I've owned have jacking points mounted a fair bit inside the car. As you can see from a photo of the jack, it has a fairly steep slope, which hits the edge of the car when I try to roll it under. Thus, great for some people, useless for others.

I have one of these jacks - if you've got a pretty standard car, and won't need a jack often, it might be suited for you. They don't lift all that high.

i'm often swapping out wheels, suspension etc from my track car, the costco arcan jack (though more expensive) is a better workshop jack. Goes much lower to about 100mm and full lift in about 6 pumps, low profile and solidly built, and half the cost of the equivalent kinchrome sold at sca.

and always, always ALWAYS use jack stands (and backups!) if you're getting under your car! or end up in the news….

    • It won't fit easily under any of our extended family's cars which I've worked on. They include standard Mitsubishi Nimbus, Ford Focus, Ford Festiva, Subaru Wagon. Not lowered, no modifications. Definitely won't fit under a Porsche. The main problem is that while it says it'll fit under something 140mm tall, it is much higher in the centre, so it can't be wheeled completely underneath the vehicle. It's also very wide compared to some other jacks.

I just remembered another problem, some of the cars have the jack points very close to the wheels, meaning you have to put the jack at a slight angle if it's too wide. This jack has such a deep angle on it up to the top ridge, that it won't fit at an angle under any of the family cars. The other jack we have fits all of them, no issues at all.

I had one of these as well as the repco version…… what you pay is what you get…. I would not get one even if they were $5….
Couple of years ago…..If I didn't have the jack stands in place… I wouldn't be responding to this post…
Got Cosco semi - alu $120 or something miles better and safer and low profile as well.

  • +1

This jack might be cheap, but it isn't low enough for clearance nor lift high enough for my vehicle.
The Costco jack on other hand is bloody awesome. But a lot more dollars then this.

  • I have the kinchrome ones of these, but my car is pretty kew so I have to start with the car jack and then put this under.

For everyone taking about it being to high, if you are working on the back wheels, you can jack your car up from the diff carrier, there should be plenty of height there.

I bought one of these a couple of months back but haven't used it yet.

I've been using their Bottle jack (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-H…) but have the problem that it doesn't quite fit under my car, so I've been swapping:

    1. scissor jack
    2. bottle jack
    3. jack stands
    4. bottle jack
    5. scissor jack
    6. Beer

Hopefully I can go straight from this to jackstands now (supposedly a bit lower). Possibly from this to bottle to jack stands if I need a little extra height.

    • lol beer ?? :-)
