Light Fixture Warranty

Hi,

A fairly boring topic I know. I purchased a cheap aquarium light fixture from ebay (T5 twin 54W), and now 2 months later one of the ballasts has presumably blown. I checked both lamps, and they work fine, so I am sure its the electrical side which is broken.
I contacted the seller (who has a 3 months return policy), and they are saying they will give me 50% refund because 50% of the item is not working. I am wondering if this is a deal I should take? I don't know if I can get this repaired for the $34 they are willing to give me. Should I ask for a full refund? Get it exchanged?

If I should get it repaired, where can I go to get it fixed?

Thanks

up to you , you know your rights… i wouldnt accept 50% back on a item thats faulty in 2 months.

    • You're right. But say it was any normal shop, they would probably replace it on the spot. I don't really want the money, I need a working light fixture. The shop is Australian, so I assume the ACCC rules apply.

50% refund because 50% of the item is not working.

You mean 50% is broken, 100% of the item is not working.

  • 50% is better than nothing.

It's one thing having consumer rights, it's a completely different matter getting them enforced.

You can push for 100%, but I expect the seller would want you to return the item for a full refund. If you paid via credit card through paypal you could do a chargeback, all depends how much effort you want to spend on $34 (or less if you need to return it)
