Laptop Power Supplies on eBay

My dad's old Toshiba Satellite A300 laptop halts/freezes when the power supply is plugged in. It doesn't happen immediately but usually after a few minutes, the cursor won't move so it needs a power cycle. It was recently rebuilt with Windows 7 on a SSD. With the laptop running on battery, it doesn't crash at all.

I'm thinking of replacing the power supply. Are the power supplies on eBay ok or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks

  • get him a more modern computer, that way its all new and under warranty they"re so cheap these days. ebay psus can be dodgy, can't believe the ratings (amps etc) printed on them, many I've had tend to overheat

  • When you installed Windows 7 did you check the Toshiba support site for up to date drivers?

You could also look into the Windows event logs to see if there are

There are some very dodgy power supplies on eBay. Try taking it into q service centre that has its own power supplies. Of using one of theirs fixes the problem, buy one off them.
