Come across these while at Aldi - Melbourne west.
When I saw the $4.99 in big print and the huge 3.3kg tub, I thought WOW so cheap! Then saw the fine print 'per kg'.
I didn't buy any, so 3.3x $4.99 = $16.47 per tub?

I'm pretty sure that's the price per tub, not per kg.
agreed so works out to about $1.51 per kg for the whole or pitted is $2.49 per kg
Yeah $9.99 is the normal price I think, so $4.99 for the 3.3kg tub is correct.
They aren't pitted from memory, I'm lazy and like them already pitted.
if you look at the photo
the sign says per kg
I have watched the prices in the past when it started around $13 then down to $10 per tub. $4.99/kg is not a bargain. I'm pretty sure that sign is wrong and it should be $4.99 for the tub. OP you should have asked for a price check.
I like my olives like my vehicle pursuit offenders… pitted…
Probably imported rubbish. Horrid quality.
Got 'em in my fridge right now, half way through a container. Ok quality whole kalamatas. Not big olives, but fine for the price imo.
*were
Isn't it "was" in this case? It's a single unit - that's the price per tub. So isn't it "was" in relation to that single unit? (srs question, I'm here to learn) :P
I think you can argue either way if you assume certain words were omitted.
You may say
Olives are $5/kg. They were $10.
But really if it would be better to say. Olives cost…
But usually what you mean is
The price of olives is $5kg. The price was $10.
Anyways, I wonder how many grammatical and spelling mistakes I have made sharing my 2 cents.
Depending on whether the title is short for:
The price of the Kalamata Olives was $9.99
or
The Kalamata Olives were $9.99
I prefer the former since as OzB'ers we are obsessed with price. :)
…Olives $4.99/kg at Aldi was $9.99
Olives, $4.99 a kilogram at Aldi, was $9.99 a kilogram
Olives, $4.99 a kilogram at Aldi, were $9.99 a kilogram
both make sense.
Now please excuse me, I've got to go help my uncle jack off a horse.
@Thrift: I'm pretty sure it's for the tub. $4.99/kg is not a bargain.
@greenpossum: the title specifies a kilogram, and 'was' makes sense if the title is referring to the unit.
Discussing 'was' and 'were', the unit itself doesn't really matter.
Olives, $4.99 a tub at Aldi, was $9.99 a tub
Olives, $2.37 a centifirkin at Aldi, was $4.08 a centifirkin
@Thrift: It also makes sense, as I have already pointed out, if one is referring to the price, which is singular.
Oh shoot. I accidentally negged the deal earlier. Revoked as soon as I realised.
Was meant to +1 it.
Sorry OP. Now it won't let me +1 it :(
This is dirt cheap; I'm gonna have to try them at this price.

Well done jv, now since you are at it, go fix the world problem … lets starts with this country
Sucks not having Aldi in WA. Rarely see even basic Kalamata's in the deli section for less than $20kg.
Aldi has outlined plans to invest another $700 million building two distribution centres and as many as 130 stores in Western Australia and South Australia

Shop elsewhere… Our local deli has lots of olive varieties ranging from $8-$12 /kg
They can't get here quick enough. Few Costco's be nice too. And yeah, even the two closest IGA's start at around $18 for olives unfortunately.
I have tried these before, they were horrible.
