The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt (Pre-Order) GOG. $15.79 USD. Requires HOLA/VPN

1650

There's a few ways to get The Witcher 3 cheaper than the current A$80 asking price but this is the cheapest I've found so far.

Using Chrome as your browser (may work with others) do the following:

  1. Open Chrome and clear all cookies/history.
  2. Activate HOLA/VPN and choose your location as Ukraine - In HOLA open www.gog.com and select to browse from Ukraine.
  3. Add Witcher 3 to your cart and choose to checkout from the cart icon.
  4. You will need to log in to your GOG account at this point - you might want to change your GOG password after this is all completed.
  5. Select payment method - I used paypal.
  6. You will be taken to the payments or paypal page - at this point DISABLE HOLA/VPN as you don't want your payment details going through a public VPN.
  7. Pay in full and you will be taken back to GOG to see your order completion and ref number.
  8. Log out of GOG

For me $15.79 USD came to A$20.70 - It should be obvious that you need an existing GOG account to complete this order.

GOG are part of the same company that developed Witcher 3 so you are dealing with the publisher directly. This game will be released on the 19th of May.

Other methods and prices:

Nuuvem $30 USD - requires VPN
DLgamer $41.99 USD
GMG - cheaper offer now withdrawn due to sh*tfight with the publisher

As always, with using a VPN to get around Aussie Tax prices on games, you run a very small risk that the site may refund your purchase or lock your account. It is very rare but has been know to happen with other game purchases (nuuvem GTA V?)

Hmm I'm pretty sure I made a paypal transaction from Nuveem while my Hola was turned on. Should I be changing my paypal password?

    • +5

To be on the safe side I would change it. HOLA is not really secure like paid for VPN's. Just can't be to careful ;)

    • +3

It's really only an issue if the the padlock icon next to https:// in the address bar of your browser was showing some sort of warning. Someone intercepting SSL traffic is not really an issue. Possibly the NSA or similar could crack the encryption but I've never heard of any private individual ever being able to do this. If you're connected to a https address, you're no more vulnerable using Hola then you are using a public or hotel WiFi access point.

    (nuuvem GTA V?)

Minimal reports over at Reddit have some users losing access to their Nuuvem bought copies.

This is an amazing price for a brand new game of this size. Definitely tempted to get it just for the price tag even though I haven't even finished the first one yet.

    • +1

People who have been playing it previously lost access? Could you link?

      • It was through Imgur with people showing screenshots of their game missing. If I come across again, I'll link. Like I said, it was just minimal from what I saw.

    • +1

I've had no issues with my GTA V copy from nuuvem :)

This is an obscenely good deal. This probably represents the best value for money game buy since Skyrim. I think I'll be sticking with my Collector's Edition pre-order though. That statue is beautiful.

  • Excellent price!! just bought it now the waiting game begins :)

  • cheers - was considering when it was $27 on ebay - but $20 is a steal

  • +4

That is a solid commitment, great post.

dam PC gamers getting enjoying their cheaper games

  • Price for the expansion pass?

    • +1

I saw a mention of around $14 but not sure exactly what you got for that. You can always browse the site via HOLA for confirmation.

      • Cheers. I would check myself, but no hola at work :)

    • Price is USD$15, but that's that standard price, no Eastern Europe discount.
DLC is not coming out till later in the year, with the second part of it releasing Q1 next year.

      From the website:

      DESCRIPTION
About: The Expansion Pass secures your access to two epic adventures set in the vibrant world of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.
Hearts of Stone will take Geralt on an all-new 10-hour adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.
Blood and Wine, a 20-hour tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.
The upcoming expansions will offer gamers new content, gear and foes, and will feature characters both new and dearly missed — all crafted with maximum attention to detail and quality.
Hearts of Stone will premiere in October, while Blood and Wine is slated for release in the first quarter of 2016.

Hola is down? its not starting for me =/

    • Getting this as well. Thought it might have been cause I was at Uni.

      Maybe high demand?

    • I had a similar issue. Fixed it by re-installing the extension.

  • +1

Is this price likely to change? I was planning on seeing what the PS4 review's were like before I considered a PC copy (not sure my 7870 can keep up with this).

    • +1

Might change if GOG catch on to the VPN thing ;) Your 7870 should be ok on lower settings.

    • I am in the same boat Brouw3r. Really want it at this price but would love to play on the big TV…

      • +3

My friend plays on his TV by steam streaming from his gaming PC to his laptop and using an xbone controller. I imagine you could do that with this?

        • I've seen those options but never actually thought about doing it. You could be onto something my friend…. and $20 is just so tempting.

        • @GravyNanna:
Not sure if that's possible with a GoG game, but it does work quite well with Steam's games (it's an option of the platform not the game itself).

I play on my TV by streaming games from my powerful desktop PC to my NUC and using Xbox 360 controller.

        • @derekrak: Interesting to hear mate. I wonder if this GOG Galaxy program will allow it…

        • +1

          @GravyNanna:
I've checked the features of the GoG Galaxy (I'm new to GoG) but I haven't seen the feature listed - perhaps they will add it at a later date.

On Steam it's called In-Home Streaming and IMHO it works quite good - even over WiFi.

          http://store.steampowered.com/streaming

        • +3

          @derekrak:
Steam streaming supports non-steam games as far as I know.

        • @QuarkfiS: Awesome tips guys. Appreciate it

  • Why does Ukraine get this game so cheap?

    • +7

Eastern European developers who, most likely, acknowledge the financial position of the likes of the Ukraine.

  • Hola says that I am browsing from Ukraine but I am still getting the Australian price, $80.99. I followed the steps up to step 5. Anyone else have any trouble?

    • Try using a different browser, I used the hola browser in the hola android app

      • I just tried it in the android app too but it only changed to the US price, $53 USD.

    • Close all browser sessions then open chrome and clear all cookies and history (all time not just for the last week). Close and re-open browser just to be sure. You must then go to GOG through HOLA using a Ukraine 'location'. It will show other prices unless you do this.

      • +2

So you don't lose all your login settings for other sites, you can narrow it down to 'gog' in the cookie section and just clear those out.

    • On Chrome: Close all instances and start a new Chrome session. Then clear your browser data as far back as necessary to before you visited GOG. The type in www.gog.com through the Hola menu rather than the normal url, while choosing Ukraine.

      You should see cheaper prices.

    • did the same thing for me, then I cleared my browsing history and cookies in Chrome settings and proceeded to buy the main game at $14 USD (might be because I have both previous games, so $18.something AUD). Will see if it proceeds or not.. was tempted to buy some other stuff while I was there.. but will wait for the next lot of GOG sales.

      • This is a good point - GOG have been offering small discounts on the prices if you have the other witcher games on your GOG account. Hey a dollar is a dollar :P

  • vpn subscription pays itself with the money saved here

    nice

  • +3

Is the game in Ukrainian / Russian language or English?

    • +1

Yes this might spoil the fun!

      • +2

яка різниця. так довго, як ви можете бачити деякі оголені груди . ;-) lol

    • As with the other Witcher games it is multi-language so you get to choose. It should default to ENG when you download/install it. Here's a link to the GOG forum asking for more selectable languages http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_witcher_3_which_support…

    • This was my only real concern about this method. I assume they wouldn't just lock it to the region, however I have seen other games do that in the past.

      • +4

GOG is DRM and region free.. it is not Steam :)

  • Thank you very much great price, now we wait!

  • +1

awesome price, got my copy! not waiting around to miss out like with GTA V

  • Awesome I wanted to buy this for under $80 but wasn't expecting it this low. Thanks OP!

  • I could've sworn when GOG announced preorders for Witcher 3, they specifically said that if you're in a country like Aus where the price is arbitrarily higher, they would give you a bunch of extra stuff like free games and whatnot to even it out.
Now the price is just high, and no goodies are mentioned on the page, as far as I could see.
Was it a limited time thing, or did I just imagine the whole thing?

    • +1

I did get something in my email from GOG which links to a game - might be a freebie although I haven't checked yet.

    • +1

I've just had another look, and they do have

A$11.00 OFF ANY FUTURE PURCHASE. You get bonus store credit (our Fair Price Package) to offset the regional pricing.

But when the initial price is $80, $11 off (so $69) is still way more expensive than everywhere else. I say VPN all the way!

It sounds like they may have dialled back the "Fair Price Policy" because the only mention of a deal like what I was thinking of is a comment in a Steam forum from the middle of last year.
      https://steamcommunity.com/app/292030/discussions/0/52272935…

What is GOG.com's Fair Price Package?
Gamers who are paying in EUR, GBP, and AUD are generally charged more for the games that they buy than gamers in the US. We don't see much sense in that, so we've come up with a solution that lets us treat everyone in those regions more fairly (without giving our legal team a heart attack). For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt pre-orders GOG.com will make up the difference out of our own pocket by providing users with a mix of $9.99 and $5.99 game codes.

    • Was:

gamers living in regions where the price is higher than in the U.S. will get the price difference in form of in-store coupons to grab other GOG.com games.

      http://www.gamershell.com/news_164845.html

Now they advertise $11 credit on their site. $80.99 minus the $11 credit makes $69.99. Not sure of the USA price?

A$11.00 OFF ANY FUTURE PURCHASE. You get bonus store credit (our Fair Price Package) to offset the regional pricing.

      http://www.gog.com/game/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_preorder

I needed to upgrade my video card and got the game bundled with the card ;-)

  • Just ordered mine! The instructions were really helpful :)

Interestingly, my friend purchased his copy for $14.99USD. I have no idea how he got that pricing though.

    • 14.99 is the expansion pass, I bought the wrong at first…

  • Yeah I got mine for $14.99 USD as well. It said "Loyalty discount applied". I assume because I have other GOG games? I bought Witcher 1&2 through steam though, so its not from them.

    • You can add your Steam copies of Witcher to GOG if you want.

Just find your Steam key, via the Steam game properties, and punch it in here: https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

      • I can't see it in the right click menu or in game properties :/

EDIT: Never mind find it out the side lol

  • +4

Not sure if it was only me, but after getting Witcher 3 via the method above I got an email with a link to get a free copy of Neverwinter Nights Diamond from GoG.

So, 2 games for extremely cheap :)

    PS
Also got Witcher Comic #1 from Dark Horse

    • Yep I got those as well. Great deal all around.

  • I think I saw an article about how CD Project Red didnt release any keys to GMG and wanted to know where they came from.
CD Project Red advised to not buy from GMG but its likely GMG bought the keys from legitimate sources (GOG) at a low price and are onselling them at a lower cost.
Perhaps this was done on GOG to spite GMG?

  • worked like charm and paid $15.79
    thanks millions !!

  • Thanks OP, bought one.

  • Thanks OP. Was'nt intending to buy this until reviews and opinions came out but at this price why worry?

  • can these be added to steam?

    • no, it is for GOG only.

  • Yeap, wasn't intending to buy.

But the dev now has got my money in their coffers.

  • Does anyone know if my GTX770 Superclocked EVGA card could cope with this very well? I already bought it but does anyone have an idea on if this is good enough? Only 2gbs of VRAM so, :/

  • -7

Thank's a lot. I was just going to pirate it, but for $20AUD I'm sold.

  • I bought the game using this method a few months ago. For the people having issues, every time I want to browse the site in another country I also set my location to said country in my profile in addition to clearing cookies and using Hola. Works every time.

    • Can you please elaborate? Where do you change your country? Which profile?

      • Account > Orders & Settings > Country

  • No matter what i do i cant get it to work :(

If anyone could gift it to me ill sort you for 25$ aud total

    • No gifting is allowed at the moment for witcher 3. Only way I could do it would be to get your account details..

      • if you are happy to do that ill change my password?

        • +1

Yeah no worries I can do it for you, send me a personal message

        • @hoftos:

          sent! Thanks!

    • This fell through with hosts if anyone else could help please!

      • if u have android smartphone download the hola app and browse from there, then when your in the payment section of paypal just copy and paste the link on the different browser log in from there and pay

        • tried that kept repeatedly asking me to login even tho my details were correct

        • @dillyz:
hmmm try changing your location to Ukraine on the gog.com account then do the hola step again on PC

  • I already had a copy of witcher 3 on my gog account and went to purchase this one as a gift copy, the payment went through and I received a confirmation email. However, there is no sign of me actually receiving the second copy, anyone know what I should do?

    • +2

Gifting of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt temporarily unavailable (fix in progress)

Due to a very large number of fraudulent transactions coming in, we have had to disable the gifting option for three items: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Expansion Pass, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game + Expansion Pass.

We are working to clarify the problem and prevent further fraudulent transactions from being made.

We will make gifting possible once more as soon as this issue is resolved.

  • So cheap, great find man. ++++

  • anyone else get their purchase refunded?

    • Nope. Maybe it was for the extra copy that you tried to buy for dilyz?

If you used paypal then log in to that and look at your transactions and refunds.

      • I didn't go through with the payment for dilyz, its probably because I already had a copy on my account.

  • +15

I know what I'm saying probably won't be popular but paying this price for a preorder of a game as big and expansive as this is a morally grey area. While I totally agree Australia gets ripped off on prices and encourage shopping for great deals this is a situation where the price is clearly for people in a region who will struggle to afford it normally. If too many people take advantage of stuff like this the developer will stop offering these prices to countries such as this, which means more disadvantaged people miss out. Not to mention when too many unintended people take advantage of these prices such as this, developers rely more on DRM and region-locking making things harder for us in the future.

Ultimately, If you normally weren't going to play the game or don't have much money fine, but if you can afford to pay more you should. Remember your money ultimately goes to the developers.

Sorry for the length of the comment.

    • +2

I agree with the sentiment. However my greed was sufficient to completely blow away any moral concerns.

      • +9

lt's your call. I just wanted to point out that taking advantage of these type of deals can have negative future consequences, not only for Australian consumers but also for other countries.
Also its worth noting that CD Projekt Red are one of the best (if not the best) developers with regards to dedication, business practices, and treatment of its audience. That sort of commitment I think should be respected and supported.

        • +1

I said I agree :) At this price it was an insta-buy, but otherwise I had no intention of picking this up near release date. I only just cleared enough room on my measly 240GB SSD for GTA V so it will probably be a while before I can even install this.

So in my case at least they got a sale they otherwise wouldn't have.

    • +2

Not everyone in Ukraine is poor and not everyone in Australia is rich.

      • +1

True, like I said, its a morally grey area, and if you cant afford to pay more, fine.

        • However, Ukraine is a much poorer region dealing with an internal conflict.

    • +4

I wouldn't have purchased the game at the normal price.

      Now I have.

      I'd say its a win/win.

    • Yeah I don't know how I feel about it. I bought the witcher 2 for 40 or 45 or whatever when it came out because I wanted to support CDPR for their stance about worldwide pricing and drm free-ness (I got in before they had to bump up the price). But I didn't end up playing it for months. Now I have a huge backlog and I am much poorer so I have already decided to wait and grab it down the track when it is a lot cheaper.

When considering this though, the fact that I probably won't buy it until I can get it for around 15-20, it seems like it's no different. I agree with you though that it might end up forcing their hand and they might enforce some regional restriction. I think they might lock accounts to regions eventually like steam does and maybe include some heavy language for use of VPN to circumvent pricing restriction.

It's strange though, I had no problem buying battlefield from mexican origin and ac:unity from indian origin which is pretty much the same thing, but I do have a soft spot for GOG and CDPR, mainly beacause they went against DRM and they at least try to compensate us aussies.

I'm still not sure about the deal and I'll probably end up hesitating until I miss out.

    • Even if each of us with morales on here did not purchase it because of this, there would still be plenty of people doing it and we would be simply missing out because of our morales which dont do us any favours in life.

  • +2

I cant do it. It just turn me into a US 53$ even after i tried deleted all cookies and histories. Help

    • Perhaps try installing a new browser for that particular purpose only?

E.g. install Firefox if you're using Chrome or install Chrome if you're using Firefox.

I usually use FF but didn't want to mess around with cookies, so just installed Chrome and got the game that way.

    • +1

      Mine's the same

    • +1

I tried all browser even install Opera and tried another clean new laptop. it still switch me to US site. Damn it
