610

The title says it all.

I went in to Bupa at Chadstone to get a quote to switch my health insurance.
At the end of the session the sales person told me there was a free gift for getting a quote.
A Bupa branded power bank that is marked 1800 mAh.

At least your health insurance may cover you for 1st degree burns when it explodes. :/ ;)

there is probably an exemption specifically for that in the fine print :)

This deal is mentioned in Westfield Paramatta and Bayside Shopping Centre.

  • Poor performance and reliability just like its owner.

      Free is free…

You had to work to get it….

Wait what? There's a Chadstone in NSW? o:

    • +1

lol i was thinking the same! Chadstone is in Victoria

      • Pretty sure there isn't. It's either Chadstone VIC or Chatswood NSW.

OP is from Melbourne, so pretty sure its VIC.

    • Chadstone always seems to be expanding.

How much personal info did you have to give? Name/address/mobile/email?

    • +2

I wanted the quote. I gave my name and mobile number.

  • so 10 - 20 minutes for a cheap item of questionable quality and passing on your personal information to them.

Not worth the time and potential breach of privacy + spam mail etc

    • +2

so 10 - 20 minutes for a $2 item. Not worth the time really

Similar, if not the same, item is $25 in Move stores, $20 in Dick Smith stores. The Dick Smith / Move one does not come with such a good looking 3-in-1 cable. It has separate plug-on connectors.

Why would you pay $25 for a 1800mAH battery charger when you can buy a XIAOMI 5V 2A 10400mAh Power Bank for $20.97 Delivered

If you really think your privacy is worth a 1800mAH power bank, then go for it

You also may want to consider Travel Time, Petrol money, Waiting in line for your turn @ Bupa etc

          1) I would not pay that much. In fact I paid $4.95 each at Dick Smith Electronics because of the sale I saw here on OzBargain.

          2) I already have the Mi 10,400mAh one - but seldom use it because of its weight. I use the small one similar to the one in this deal - or I use the Mi 5,000mAh Super Slim one.

          3) I only posted my comment to point out the current retail pricing for a similar item, and that it should not be seen as a "$2 item".

If you really think your privacy is worth a 1800mAH power bank, then go for it

As I said, i was only commenting on the item's value. However, I do not believe that Bupa will require ID. So, one could give false information.

You also may want to consider Travel Time, Petrol money, Waiting in line for your turn @ Bupa etc.

Well, obviously, one would not make a special trip. If I was passing a Bupa in a shopping mall and there was not a long wait, I might even go in for one of these - but I have four already from Dick Smith.

I'm so tired I read that as Time Travel!

Freebie: Item or service is completely FREE to obtain, with zero shipping cost and no strings attached.

Well you have to give away your time and your personal details as well as potentially be signing up to marketing material.

    • An example of strings would be, free powerbank when you JOIN bupa. This meets the requirement.

  • Never, ever use a generic USB battery or charger. Just not worth the risk.

  • These are pretty good powerbank and reliable to, coughs"

      To where? Too, two, to.

  • Better deal, but very short timeline: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/193090

Edit oops my post was a duplicate
Here is the first post on this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/192769

May I warn you guys that these cheap ones are known to explode.

You wanna risk your house being set on fire or wherever you're charging it with the powerbank? Go ahead.

    • You usually would be using a normal charger when you are home.
You would use the power bank when you are out and about - the risk might be that it blows up in your bag, right next to your expensive mobile phone or tablet!

  • I lost mine a while ago. So I mine try to get it?!

    • +7

Not quite sure what you're saying here. If you're looking for a mine, there's a big one in Kalgoorlie

      • +2

If you lost your mine…..you should dig around and find it…. :P

  • Have 2 of these from FujiXerox. Used twice and died.

  • My gf swears against BUPA. Beware.

  • I left BUPA because I was getting ripped off. No going back there unless they can do an awesome deal. Currently much happier at Medibank with a much lower premium.

    • Seriously? Lower premium at Medibank for the same level of cover, or not?

      • Lower premium for higher level of cover. You need to ask for their corporate plans and mention you work for a big company like Telstra etc….

  • Whatever you do, don't sign up with them! I have been with them for about 5 months to save some money, and had to call them 6 times so far because of various billing issues and errors on their side. I haven't even claimed anything yet and they have dropped the ball that many times that I'm horrified to think what they are like when you actually have to claim. They never call you back, and never respond to emails. I was with CUA before who were great, but expensive.. if anyone has recommendations I'm all ears!
