  • Couould this be housed in a USB 3.0 Case and then used as a cheap fast external drive?

    • +1

As long as it's a SATA case then yes, they're generally pretty damn cheap too.

      • Oh OK so I just need a USB 3.0 SATA case and then I can use it.

        • +1

Better off buying a large USB 3.0 thumb drive from Amazon, isn't it?

          @Make it so:

But SSD will have faster read/write speeds

        • @djevoultion: the PNY drives are fairly fast though. Not sure how much more actual speed you would get out of this Kingston drive once it is hooked into a caddy and accessed through USB 3.0. It will not be comparable to hooking it into a SATA port on your motherboard.

        • @Make it so: nope, SSD last much longer than thumb drive's nand.

  • Pretty good deal, might get it for GTA 5 :)

  • Would this be a good replacement for a laptop?

    120GB doesn't seem like much

    • Depends on your needs, Ive run a 64GB SSD in my main rig for years thats just windows + core apps, with games and media on a HDD.

If you dont game on it, or store a lot of media locally its fine. If you do, look at a 240GB or bigger.

If your laptop has a DVD/Blu-Ray drive that you don't use you can buy a HDD caddy that goes in the optical drive slot. On my last laptop I had a 256gb Samsung Evo in the main hard drive slot and put the original 750gb Hitachi HDD in the caddy and used it to store my downloads, media and to install programs that didn't need to be optimised by the ssd. Sadly I couldn't continue the same setup on my new one due to no DVD drive but luckily it came with a 1tb hybrid drive installed so its not so bad.

      • This is awesome, why did I not think of putting an extra HDD in my empty CD Drive!

  • Darn, just bought the 240gb since they had no stock of this!

    • There is plenty of stock left at $59

      • Like last week or something. Just having a whinge!

  • hopefully wont be sold by the time i get home, I have a 15% off coupon at home…..

  • Between this and the OCZ ARC, which one performs better?

    • OCZ customer service is very very bad. They ask me send PSU overseas to get fix.Kingston is much bigger company.

      • FYI You can always return an item to the retailler for warranty in Australia, anyone who tells you otherwise is lieing and the ACCC would like the details.

However, if the retailler is out of business then you're in a bad spot.

        • Hi, it was a out of warranty PSU, but I dont they should let me send a PSU oversea, they know it will cost more than the PSU.

        • @alex27:

          Was that pre-Toshiba days?

  • Cheers OP, picked one up from Wangara.

  • meh not much cheaper than msy or umart but i guess a small saving is better than none

  • +1

This is a Sandforce controller drive with slower asynchronous NAND.

Not good IMO, compared to the Toggle NAND and Marvel controller in the Sandisk Ultra 2 120GB for $64 from MSY last year.

  • hi is there any special requirements or things i need to look out for to fit a laptop? its a HP550 laptop from 2008

  • by the time i want to buy it. it already aud75. T_T

    • Cheers, the deal itself didnt have an expiry on it but I just expired it here.

These sorts of deals are coming up every now and then as well, I got a 240GB from them I think about a month ago for like $95 or something so just keep an eye out.
