from past experience, most (90%) of the items are usually around 50% off. The exclusions are usually non kathmandu branded stuff.
Kathmandu stuff in generally over priced, and you can get 25% off all year round just by becoming a summit club member. So take into consideration that the prices are over inflated.
Kathmandu is going down the model similar to rugs a million. Their standard prices are over inflated, and the sales bring the prices down to a normal level, while giving the impression that people are getting a bargain. I guess it must work for them because they seem to be doing well.
Kathmandu profit margin is in excess of 70% as the founder has quoted on the paper.
Is that 70% on the full price? I'm assuming so, I would say they would sell 90+% of their items during their frequent sales.
They do have the annoying habit of dropping good lines. They used to have some excellent ordinary style street shoes called Kathmandu Walkers (all leather, made in Italy) for about $250. I got them for about half that and they last for ages, like 15 years.
I've bought clothes from here before, nice stuff but generally overpriced. Places like mountain designs have similar gear for cheaper.
However 60% is not bad.
