Melbourne to Seattle - 1st August to 13th August

Hi guys,
I'm planning on booking a trip from Melbourne to Seattle from dates 1st August 2015 to 13th August. I've had a look on a couple of sites, including virgin's website, cheapflights, webjet, and all of the coupons I could find in relation to this, and the best price I have found is $1300 return. Is this a reasonable price? Or should I be waiting for a coupon/special here? If I am waiting, is there any way to be notified of such a special?

I've also had a quick look at some of the expired coupons from here, and have noticed that there seem to be relatively frequent coupons for MEL -> LAX, or MEL -> Seattle, so I'm just curious as to whether or not it's worth risking waiting until closer to the date.

Tl;DR
Is $1300 return from Melbourne to Seattle worth buying now, or should I wait for a coupon and cross my fingers that I don't end up spending more?

Thanks,
Tom.

  • Who is it flying with?

I'd say that's cheap and to buy it.

  • +2

Cheapest I can find is $1235 on the VA website using the below

Code: MPV23 to reduce down to $1281.34

$1300 voucher purchased from entertainment book 5% off face value = $1235

  • Yeah I'd say thats cheap. especially if you need particular dates. My opinion is you could hold out with the slight chance of getting them a bit cheaper but with the likely chance of paying quite a bit more.

Also I dony know if other people have had this problem but last month I was looking for return flights to Vegas. There was always the cheapest offer on skyscan and the like with STA travel and BYOJet and others but once you click on and try confirm they end up saying 'not available' and offer you something a few hundred more.

  • That was flying with Virgin. Fantastic. Thanks for your response guys. I'd assumed I probably wouldn't get much better, but could hold off with the chance of getting a better deal, but most likely missing out haha.

  • United had it fir around $874 last week I think it was, but from Sydney

  • If that was flying Virgin MEL-LAX then it sounds good value but I can't seem to find it, I can only find flights with 2 stops on those dates… I guess it depends on how set your dates are and if you want to fly on one ticket. For instance ->31/7 <-12/8 is $1278 at STA with only one stop at LAX with United, not as good as Virgin but I'd say equivalent to Delta whose cheap flights Virgin seems to be showing. I haven't flown with United since they got their new metal and direct flights from MEL but I hear it's decent now.

    • Can confirm, United on the 787 Dreamliner is pretty great.
