Return Flight to LA in Sept/Oct

Thanks for opening this thread :)

Would be awesome to have a bit of help from you guys: I am looking to go to America for ~4 weeks in September/October. I will be flying out of Brisbane. I am 31 so can't get those young person deals.

Would like to arrive in LAX around August 28 and leave around September 28. I'll be in NYC on September 21-28 and have to fly NYC > LAX for the flight home. The dates aren't super flexible as I want to go to Burning Man (August 30 - September 7) and I have a friend to visit in NYC, but if the price different was large I might be able to work something out.

I have 65,000 Velocity points which looks like it'll get me one leg of the way there if it is a worthwhile use, but from the searches I've done so far it seems like booking one way is so expensive. So even with the current 15% discount on booking 65k won't get me that far. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  thanks for the tip. do you mean points + pay, or try buy some off an individual? or can i buy them from virgin?

    points + pay at virgin website = cost a fortune.
    
    buy some off an individual is cheaper. 1point market rate about 1.3cents ( 64500 points = 845aud )
    
    using points at airline you need to book Business class. Not worth it for economy booking.

      Interesting idea… Works out quite well! Risk getting caught and having ticket cancelled though.

For depart Aug 28 return Sept 28 Brisbane to LA return:

Virgin should cost you around $1424 (Bestjet)

Qantas around $1365 (Cheapoair)

a Qantas/United combo around $1297 (Skiddoo)
