Spintel 3G/4G Mobile/Data Plan - Half Price Activation & First Month Plan (Save $18)

50
plansim

Optus 3G or 4G network. Shopped around and this seems like the best plan for low-variable data and mobile usage as I am looking to move away from Amaysim which has gotten costly.

Before the discount, the plan total cost is $20 (SIM) + $5 (postage) + $18-$36 per month.

May 2015 deal. Last month offered free Activation/SIM postage which was roughly of equal value (save $25).

The plan cost per month varies from $18 to $36 and can be tailored to individual usage. Ramps up to unlimited voice/text and 2.5GB.

The best approach seems to be to default to the minimum $18/month and have it bump up as usage requires, as there is no penalty for going over your imposed limit - you are simply upgraded to a higher usage need (see the link).

The exception to this is data above 2.5GB which is charged at $15 per excess GB so if you require data above this then other larger unlimited plan providers may edge this deal out.

No personal experience yet, but opinions seem good to reasonable.

  • I connected my land line and internet with spintel… You would expect low quality service for cheap prices, but you would expect some service.. These guys are really crap.i had to sort it out with ombudsman… Please don't join these guys

  • i connected 2/3 through the month so i got 33% of usages. i got bumped up multiple times a day and very quickly got to the top plan for everything. there is obviously flaws and bugs in their system. for eg, i used 10mb and i got bumped up to the next plan, thats only 10%, not 33%. i called them and they have no bloody what im talking about. they said theyll fix it which they never did and was told my calls to them will not be charged which i was. their call back services is basically like you calling them, still have the wait in queue. only got it fixed after i complained on their facebook page. then the next month it wouldnt let me change my plans which was then fixed though facebook. now typing this i forgot to change my plans so its a pain trying to remember to change plans at the end of every month

  • I've only been connected about a month so far, but so far no dramas at all. There was a bit of confusion about their pro-rata charges for the first month (getting overage notifications etc) but all sorted out now.

This is not good value. For $1.80 more you could get Vodafone Unlimited at certain times and just buy enough sims to last you several months.
See the deals for sims from phonebot.

    • Like I said, may not be good value if you use a lot of data. If you use very little some months this should save you money. Also not everyone wants to fiddle around with multiple SIMs or use the Vodafone network.

The deal is not good value at all as even if you do not use a lot of data but make phone calls and texts you might run out of the allocated credit and slide into the next higher bracket.

        • The brackets are separate for calls, SMS and data.

No other plan I have found given you the flexibility of as low as $20ish for low use months while capping out at $30ish for high use.

How is the Vodafone deal better? At 3gb for $35 (no way I would sign a 24 month contract for the 6gb) its about the same but without the flexibility of potentially costing much less.

        • @RedSky:
Voda has $5, and $19.98 Sims 1st, obtained in last 30 days with indispensable flexi data, if not $35 renewal, with significant advances.
Your MNVO looks to want $18 +10, for lesser apples - others requiring international SMS, MMS and video call. Spintel bump gimmick works in 1D obviously, inflexibly and rather counter to saving money with enough already to watch with MNVO exceptions and overages.
(But sure, it could appeal to those whose use stays modest whilst invariably narrow).

        • @RedSky:

I bought six $50 cap unlimited sims for $20. They have no expiry date. Even Vodafone itself on its website offered those for $25 (maybe they still do).
Also, with the Huawei Y550 deal came a $50 Vodafone cap sim which gives you unlimited for a months plus 3GB.

Sorry but that is definitely a better deal, especially since you don't have to sign up and possibly argue with them if you actually used so much data etc. as to bump you into next bracket.

  • Need 10gig pw Netflix, so unlimited it is.
