as per conditions Groupon will pay 100% funds to World Vision Australia, so Groupon will provide cashback from its own pocket :-)
• Groupon will donate 100% of all funds received to World Vision Australia
if you're buying this package from groupon, how is this tax deductible unless they are a charitable institution as 'they' are then making the donation "Groupon will donate 100% of all funds received to World Vision Australia"
Agreed, this isn't tax deductible and morally stupid
Just saw in the T&C's: All donations are tax deductible and World Vision Australia will issue tax invoices via email.
Makes me think why not just link straight to World Vision Australia's website….
World vision sends an invoice directly to you. Says so on the deal page.
Ok fair enough, but this 'deal' is relying on the fact that Groupon will pay commissions. I think you'll find your cashback will suddenly not track, so congrats you just made a contribution without any kickback!
@Spackbace: worth a try for anyone who is going to donate anyway
That's great thanks. And remains tax deductible too.
No it doesn't, you're paying Groupon. They get to write it all off
No, see the deal page, world vision sends an invoice directly to you
This is messed up, how is this a deal, just donate slightly less.
I can donate $100, which is tax deductible and get a cash back of $4.25. How this is not a deal?
Because it means commissions are going to you and the cashback company, not to where it should be
As mentioned above 100% going to World Vision Australia
Yes, 100% goes to WV Australia and probably send $10 back to Groupon. They then have their administrative costs and other fundraising costs which probably reduces it to about $70-80.
Charities need to spend money to get donations but World Vision's are pretty high. Hopefully they are very effective at using that money. Personally, I prefer to give to secular charities.
The simple fact of getting cashback doesn't make this a deal, otherwise any product could be posted from Groupon. There's no discount on the product bought. This isn't a deal just because of cashback
(in the forums it goes - charity post)
Lets all complain about Groupon taking a slice of the pie, even though as per terms and conditions they are not. World Vision on the other hand how much are they taking? $100 to world vision … fees… wages… etc etc. $70 by the time it reaches Nepal maybe?
So.. How does the tax deduction work ?? Anybody enlighten me plz
What do you need to know? World vision sends you an invoice and when it comes to tax time you enter that you made a charity donation and it reduces your taxable income
How much money will I get back? Is there a percentage thing or the whole money?
You don't get anything back directly, it just reduces your taxable income - so you don't pay tax on that amount, so depending on your tax bracket it might work out that for example if you make a $10 donation, that's $10 you don't pay tax on, so you save $1.90 in tax.
@Chik5555: Ohh. Thanks for the clarification
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't cashback receive commission from every donation and then you receive part of that commission back? Which would actually mean you are donating less?
Or is this not how cashback thing work?
